Nailed it. I've always seen S6 as a super obvious and fairly fundamental turning point in the tone and pace of the show. I'll always prefer S1-5, but I've come to appreciate the subtler, less slapstick post-S5 style more over time. I'm as harsh a judge as anyone when it comes to music/TV that I like overall... but I can't think of one S1-5 episode that I wouldn't be happy to rewatch any given day.
Season 1 is great and really funny but I also don't think it's unfair or inaccurate to say that the show didn't truly come into its own until DeVito joined. What initially seemed like forced stuntcasting wound up turning the show into something totally unlike anything else on television.
The number that I actively dislike is very low, but there are quite a few that I find completely forgettable and not up to the standard of most of the series.
Right. They are ones that I'm mostly indifferent towards. I don't dislike them, I just don't find myself going back to them (basically, any of the ones that rely too heavily on callbacks). There are also ones in the newer seasons which have a much different direction. I don't end up laughing much but am still really entertained.
A lot of times I will want to just throw this on and let it play for a while, and I find there are stretches where none of them grab me enough to be what I pick from the start, but I don’t mind if they come on auto play. That seems to happen more if I’m trying to pick from the middle seasons.
Season 13 is one of the most uneven, I think. I really like Time's Up for the Gang (especially the end), the bathroom episode, and the finale, but some of the others weren't great.
Not even kidding, I did this two separate times tonight....to John Goodman. Edit: and my friends and I even made this Sunny reference several times.
Yeah that's one of those seasons that weirdly has some of their absolute worst episodes, but then it also has some of their best like CharDee MacDennis, Storm of the Century and The Gang Gets Trapped
Frank's Pretty Woman, Jersey Shore, Frank Reynolds' Little Beauties, Thunder Gun Express and the high school reunion eps are all classics and all time best episodes
Season 8 starts so strong. I don't really remember these episodes on the back half though. Really just excited to get to my favorite episode, Mac Day.
