Great pilot episode The two boys we thought were going to be the main protagonists getting brutally killed bait and switch at the end of the episode caught me off guard. Didn't see that coming.
So far for family connections to IT I know that The Major is Mike's grandfather. Teddy appeared to be Stan's uncle . Was there any others I missed?
Holy smokes, that pilot exceeded all my expectations. Definitely going to be watching this now - was cautiously optimistic, but wow.
I like that this joined the long tradition of series pilots titled "The Pilot" where an actual aircraft pilot plays into the story so it makes sense.
Given it's only been one episode so may be hard to answer, but...for someone who never really got into IT in any variation, not because I ever thought any of the adapations or the book are bad but mostly because I just never got roped in and have seen bits on them over the years...would I be lost watching this? I know the very, very, very surface level info on Pennywise and what it is, but forget most of that even lol
I have not watched yet, but I think you'll be fine if you just know that IT is an ancient evil that resurfaces every 27 years or so in Derry culminating in a big tragedy. The book has several interludes that explore some of the previous times IT resurfaced before coming up against The Losers' Club in 1957 and again as adults in 1984. I believe the show is set in those interludes.
I think one of the stated points of this show is to explain this more and go deeper into that. I think you're good.
Opening scene and ending were the best parts of this. Got rough in the middle for me, especially the scene with dudes breaking into the military base at night. Whole scene felt out of place.
I THOUGHT I noticed this. Glad to know it was intentional because I thought I was Mandela Effecting myself lol
I thought this was okay, agreed the middle was a drag and the scene with the gasmask guys was... not good. the way they slowly walked out of the room was hysterical. Jovan is amazing but I really hope that rumoured storyline for the military base isn't true cos it sounds very silly good start and end but I think the bait and switch woulda hit more a few episodes in when we actually knew the characters. they were just budget Bill and Richie as is so I was more just mildly startled
Having spent a ton of time (including living there for a stretch) in Bangor (the real life version of Derry), the lack of any real resemblance to the city is always what irked me the most about the films and the first episode of the show, but I realize that's very much a "me" problem, being local to King and all. That said, I enjoyed this very much, am completely enthralled by the world of IT, and am very excited for what's to come.
