Like the post he had last week that was convoluted and made no sense? Or is there something more to it? Honestly it seemed like he was apologizing for having the ability to take advantage of him being in a band. It read terribly, like he had complete power over women and now wants to keep himself from allowing it to happen.
Evan from Pinegrove's post was him trying to get ahead of things that may or may not be coming. Not my story to tell. What I found most disturbing about that whole debacle, aside from the obvious, was the fact that he outright admitted to scanning the crowd for potential sexual conquests every night. The fact that he was doing that at the same time he was opining for safe spaces and stopping shows to talk and make sure everyone was doing okay...makes me feel super gross. I don't think I'll feel comfortable at a show for a long time with that in the back of my head.
the Pinegrove "apology" made me seriously re evaluate the worth/purpose of public apologies tbh. If you have shit that needs to be sorted out and you do it privately, in accordance with the wishes of the victim, then you shouldn't feel the need to defend yourself in the public sphere. You're only serving yourself
That makes more sense, about scanning the crowd at the same time preaching for safe spaces. I'm disappointed by these musicians but I'm far from being shocked. A "rock star" looking out in a crowd for someone they can hit on later, I feel like that's something most people assume happens. It seems like a lot of people idolize musicians when they shouldn't be.
whom is he @ing here? this is going way back to AP days but i recall some drama with Evan that soured me on him... frankly this just sounds like damage control, as is always the case with this shit.
someone tweeted at him with a screenshot of the part of the post that involved him and that was his response. As I said earlier, I reached out to him via that email and he got back to me and talked about it. again, not gonna go into details because I don't want to say anything that could be biased towards him/detract from the victim
if you want to put it like that, sure. i'm not going to bat for him. just telling you that if you want to tell him off there's an avenue to do that
yeah, i'm not insinuating you're defending him, but i don't think that's an inaccurate characterization of what that is.
that's completely fair. i WANT to defend him, he's made some of my absolute favorite music of the last 10 years, it's only natural I think. But guiding other people what to think about him when he did such a shitty thing is irresponsible and disrespectful to the victim. It's entirely up to the person whether or not they want to continue to support him/listen to his music
Wow, Evan Weiss is a fucking tool. Why am I not surprised that a whiny white guy who makes exceedingly mediocre sadboi emo is a dumpster fire of a person? Can we be real though? Into It Over It was always just Dashboard Confessional for people who make misogynistic remarks about Dashboard Confessional fans.
Since no one else seems to want to say anything, I will. Your fan bashing is false and disrespectful. I hope your favorite artists/personalities don't end up in the same spotlight. But if they do, no one should imply anything about or disparage you. Of course you're allowed to vent, but there's no need to insult music fans in the process. I feel like a lot of posters on Chorus (almost wrote AP) are getting inebriated on self-righteousness. I thought the Brand New ordeal, with such a big impact, would make people think twice before writing comments such as these. BTW Bob's Burgers is the best.
Get lost. And they already did - I won't be listening to Brand New any time soon. And if you think I'm being broadly disrespectful you're clearly washing over the latent misogyny of a huge chunk of white male emo fans and indeed the scene and genre itself. Fuck off with your 'self-righteouness' shit and I could care less if you like Bob's Burgers too.
i mean i'm proud i'm being a warrior for social justice! makes me seem like i'm doing something good!
It is entirely fair to criticize Evan Weiss for his selfish & harmful choices, but you can't characterize a fan base based on whether or not they liked an artist before said artists crap surfaced - this is unless the band openly airs their poor personalities/beliefs/views through their music. This can't be applied to IIOI, cause Evan has never been overtly misogynistic through his music, and his general persona would lead people to believe he's a pretty good guy. To make the assumption that his fans must be shit heads because behind closed doors he chose to censor someone's call for help is entirely illogical. However, that changes if they choose to not recognize his shortcoming and still consider him a good guy at this point.. I personally feel pretty defeated by this whole thing - I was a big fan of Evan's work prior to this because he seemed like a person who was down to earth and wouldn't stand for this sort of shit.
I think I've finally traced the true line of thought: Someone who Fights for Social Equality = Social Justice Warrior Social Justice Warriors = Snowflakes Snowflakes = Don't want to melt Fighting for Social Equality = Fighting for other Snowflakes Fighting to make sure snowflakes don't melt = Fighting to plunge the earth into an ice age Fighting to plunge the earth into an ice age = Anti-Global Warming Anti-Global Warming = Anti-Free Business Practices Anti-Free Business Practices = Anti-American Anti-American = Fascists Fascists = AntiFa AntiFa = ISIS ISIS = Not-White & Christian Not-White & Christian = Not Real People Not Real People who want the rights of Real People = Social Justice Warriors Rinse and Repeat
I will not fuck off. Your opinion about people who were Into It Over It. fans should. You've made it about "white male emo fans" now so anything I say is pointless, good job. And I if you could care less, it means you care, so, good! So rude. Edit: I won't bother you anymore. I think you are wrong about the fans but I sure as hell do not want to take up any more space in this thread about it, and trying to have this conversation is making me feel ill. I don't know you and you might have your reasons.
http://trackrecord.net/into-it-over-it-former-hellogoodbye-manager-accused-1820979526 Evan Weiss (and some others) have released statements and yep it's shitty
Thanks for this response. I can actually say I regret making fun of IIOI fans, I was just reacting from a place of disgust at what a turd Evan Weiss has been. Still think their music is insufferable at best, but to each their own. And hey, at least you didn't talk about 'self-righteousness' so that's good!
