The film stars Carell as a successful Democratic strategist who, after discovering a video of a retired marine colonel, played by Chris Cooper, pledging support for the rights of his local townsfolk’s undocumented workers, is convinced he’s found a way into the right-wing-skewing Heartland. But he’s soon pitted against Faith (aptly named and played by Rose Byrne), who’s dispatched by the Republicans to challenge Gary (Carell) in a race that spirals out of control and into high-stakes hilarity. The movie also stars Topher Grace, Debra Messing, Natasha Lyonne, Mackenzie Davis, CJ Wilson, and Will Sasso

Besides looking bad, I can't think of anything I'd want to see less of at the movies this year than one about an election.

It looks like two hours of shooting fish in a barrel.

Stewart's brand of political commentary really hasn't aged well.

The last few trailers for Steve Carell projects have been painful. Saw this one the last time I was at the theater and you could tell everyone in the room was not into it.

Yeah, this was like a Kevin Costner drama from 1994 that’s trying to lecture us about politics in 2020.

I hope you’re sitting down for this, but money runs America’s political system, news networks are bad and often visit a small town once on the campaign trail and don’t come back for another four years.

God bless Mackenzie Davis and Chris Cooper for giving their all. Steve Carell - I don’t know what’s going on with him, but I’ve found hin insufferable in almost every role in the past couple of years. Rose Byrne and Natasha Lyonne certainly deserve better.

If a decent, politically-themed comedy like “Long Shot” didn’t connect with audiences, this neoliberal nonsense would have made like $10 in theaters. Jon Stewart should be thankful the pandemic saved him the embarassment.

Jon Stewart had a lot of good lines on The Daily Show, but if you tried to dig deeper into his political ideology it was very empty and shallow. This is the guy who continually brought on people like John McCain and Bill O'Reilly and normalized them by acting as if it was some sort of act of courage to "debate" these people. The Rally to Restore Sanity was about extremism on "both sides", completely misreading the direction of the early Obama years.

No, I thought this was somewhat tolerable. I hated The Hunt. But neither are good.

To go along with what Tetra said, I think the only interested people wanting to see this are those that miss Jon Stewart and want to hear what he has to say in 2020, with the political climate being so different from the last time he say behind the Daily Show desk.

The absurd ending shows that he unfortunately doesn’t have much to add besides “Both sides are bad!”

One of the very first shots of this movie literally has "RURAL AMERICA" superimposed over it. This is going to be a long night.

In Jon Stewart's version of Wisconsin, the locals are too stupid to differentiate from a voter call list and an office directory.
