Not me. I still love OEND and Shepherd's Dog, and would put probably two of his songs in my all time top 25.
Probably a top 5 I&W song for me. The highlights on that record for me were: "Walking Far from Home" "Tree by the River" "Monkeys Uptown" "Rabbit Will Run" "Godless Brother in Love"
I also consider The Trapeze Swinger to be in the top 5 songs ever written in the history of music. Maybe even top 3. Not kidding.
Agreed. I remember in the lead-up to this album thinking that those songs sounded pretty good in the live videos. I think it's the production/arrangements that killed them for me.
Kiss Each Other Clean is my favorite, followed by Woman King and the first two albums, not really into Shepherd or Ghost. This new song's excellent.
What's with the love for The Trapeze Swinger? I've been hearing grandiose statements about this song for years now, and its nice, but its the kind of song Sam Beam writes in his sleep, not top 5 of all time. I know that's a subjective ranking anyways, I just don't get it.
To me it's a culmination of all of his best writing attributes. It's fucking 10 minutes long and it could be another 10 minutes long and I wouldn't get bored. IMO
I guess that's valid. "Fever Dream" is always going to be the first melody of his that really caught my ear and takes me places just on hearing it.
Just listened. It's really good. My hope is that the rest of the album sounds like this. Except with pedal steel.
Faded From The Winter Upward Over The Mountain The Sea & The Rhythm Naked As We Came Cinder And Smoke Sunset Soon Forgotten Fever Dream Sodom, South Georgia Jezebel House By The Sea Resurrection Fern Boy With A Coin Flightless Bird, American Mouth Love Vigilantes Tree By The River Half Moon Big Burned Hand Trapeze Swinger is that too long for a greatest hits album? as for my favorite songs ever list.. i have heart palpitations even just thinking about making that haha
