I know it’s only been one episode but Tech Jacket’s intro had me feeling the same way from when I read the comics (having not read any Tech Jacket comics), which is not being given any good sense of how they’re on a comparable level to Viltrumites
Yknow I am really curious how they portray certain things in the end stages of the comics Like... does Mark really give all the human mothers of the Viltrumite children the ultimatum of "abandon your lives into space or I will kidnap your children" and then hypocritically leave his son behind anyways?? The comics never really say if there was a choice given there.
Still not a fan of the casting for Thragg though, I'm sorry. Lee Pace is a fine actor but I think he was miscast for this role. We need someone commanding, furious, ruthless, and genuinely intimidating. I am not getting that from him. EDIT Like, damn, I think JDM would do a better job and he already played a good enough Conquest.
Okay, so, I know I have a lot of back to back comments but nobody comments in here and that's lame! Invincible is my favorite comic book story next to Ultimate Spider-Man! So. Man, Viltrumites sure love killing each other in this universe huh? Even more than the initial cull. 1) spoiler: it makes no sense why Thragg would go to Earth if Mark doesn't even leave a tiny scratch on him and says he's unimpressed. Weird change from the comics. 2) still not convinced about Lee Pace but he was a little better when he got angry I guess. Cool seeing how he was even feared by Conquest. 3) Hey! Nolan actually warns his sons how dangerous Thragg is ahead of time this go around! Too bad Oliver still just doesn't care lmao. Oliver, you rascal. 4) What was the point of braided hair Viltrumite hiding if Thragg was just gonna be like "sup, guys?" 5) Viltrum melting down was cool a fuck 6) Thragg making a tornado with his arm before punching Nolan was silly, but kinda cool lol 7) nice sequence destroying the planet 8) Loved the Nolan/Thragg chat on Viltrum. 9) Thought it was real cool how Zoe repaired Space Racer's helmet. 10) Leader Allen ftw. That reveal was less funny in this adaption but that's okay. 11) Thaedus/Thragg conflict and backstory was cool. Thragg ripping his head off felt more earned. 12) Love that they're showing how much Nolan questions Thaedus's methods. Sorry for all the thoughts lol.
This made Thragg appear so much stronger than the comics, right? He might as well had been season one Omniman fighting any regular earthling. He really could have just laid out the whole team on his own, probably also very dumb of Tech Jacket to have an explicit Viltrumite-weakening shot and not save one just for Thragg…
Oh, Thragg is absolutely stronger in this than in the comics. Mark at least drew a little blood from him in this battle there EDIT And it does feel weird to make him this OP because it feels like he had no need to run from Telescria. Could have told the other Viltrumites to leave and soloed everyone there.
Fair. I just remember her stealthily attacking in the comics before anyone knew they were waiting for them
Telescria's advanced medicine combined with a Viltrumite's enhanced healing factor does wonders I guess lol
I was so worried they chicken out of including the abortion plot. I'm glad they kept it in. That said, I hate that the scene was mostly used to show Mark's guilt and trauma. I really enjoyed this season. Tech Jacket being the big highlight for me.
Yeah I'm glad they kept it. I was really worried they wouldn't. But, I do agree with you - my biggest remaining critique of the show is how underutilized Eve is and how 99% of the time Mark sees her, she says "are you okay?" at least once haha. She's her own person! With some sick ass powers. Conquest wouldn't have been defeated without her for God sake. Like, I get it, she's a supportive partner and Marks life is fucking miserable and traumatic. Who wouldn't be always asking their partner if they're doing okay in these situations? But it becomes a bit much from a writing and story perspective.
Anyways, awesome finale. Was really cool and haunting to see how affected Mark is by all of this... Even going so far as telling Cecil and Donald that he needs help. These kind of personal character moments are great. Also, nice to see that Debbie and Paul's break up was mature and amicable in this iteration of the story. I hope Oliver gets to have his spaghetti and meatballs again. Also thought it was funny that they kept the whole bit about Mark and Nolan ignoring Tech Jacket on the way home, but in this version, her joke to see if they're listening is a lot more tame than in the comic. Would have been very weird/creepy coming from a 15 year old, so that was a good rewrite.
Goated season. At first I thought they were gonna skip Mark’s nightmares which were so gnarly in the comic, but using them as PTSD type hallucinations was a great idea +1 for more one-offs. Would watch an invincible universe anthology, tech jacket, battle beast, etc
I generally get annoyed by the people complaining about animation quality because (1) the show has always been a mixed bag in that regard, and (2) a lot of people seem to truly only care about the flashy lights and colors as if they’re a baby But this season really did ultimately feel like a huge dip in quality. The only moments that really stand out to me as decent are the Conquest fight and Viltrum being destroyed. For an arc that is the culmination of everything the series has been leading up to at this point, it was quite disappointing seeing just how flat and boring most of the Viltrumite fights were.
Animation in this show is ass but it doesn't really bother me too much because of how enjoyable it is I hate when people are like "you just don't understand how hard animation is in television" as if shows like Avatar The Last Airbender don't exist?? EDIT I've seen better animated action scenes in The Simpsons sometimes and I'm not joking lol
Btw why was Eve's costume thrown all around the room when her and Mark had sex if she was in plain clothes when he came over lmfao Guess they're into some superhero role play
Still love the show but yeah it looks bad sometimes lol. They clearly have budget to chase huge names for voice talent, not sure if it’s the faster release schedule or we’re not hiring enough animators or what haha
Animation absolutely takes time but with Bezos money, I am sure they could delegate some stuff between multiple teams if it were truly the desire to make great animation, or at least half way decent.
