I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, but I assume the issue is that buying roubles means paying Russian-fixed exchange rates instead of market rates, is that it?

 

I believe so? They're desperate to prop up the value of the rouble, but it'll really come down to how serious Russia actually is in this payment method being carried out, and whether Europe will be willing to play along, and if not, what those consequences actually mean

Yeah, a big portion of this is down to the central bank there drastically raising interest rates, and not allowing most people to take their money out of the country

 

Read a bit about it and it really is only about increasing demand for the ruble, along with the other measures. I was thinking of something else, such as Angola did with the Euro a few years ago

Absolutely horrendous images and video coming out of the suburbs around Kyiv. A lot of the ones I saw seemed to be from Bucha / Irpin area. Evidence of war crimes on a whole other level from indiscriminately killing civilians with artillery and bombs.

 

Unfortunately I don’t think it’ll change the West’s response all that much, other than maybe just more sanctions
