The proper show was awesome, I've seen a couple album shows before but this was especially unique. Proper came out when I was one month into freshman year of college, and now I heard it played as I'm close to finishing my Masters degree. Feels like the positive closing to a chapter of a huge part of my life. In addition to the album (guitar changes after every song because of the tunings lol), they filled 9 song requests out of 12 before all ages curfew cut the rest off A Curse Worth Believing Upstate Blues Humboldt Brenham, TX Augusta, GA (not positive about this one) Pinky Swear Ravenswood Spatial Exploration Open Casket
Only one standards song? Was this album not well Receivied among the fan base? Or is it that's what he's been playing for the last year and people want to hear some old rarities
I would say a combination of both. I don't think it wasn't well received but people liked the older material better is the impression I got.
Ah standards is probably second only to proper, also thought people really didn't like his second lp too much
Yeah people wanted to hear the old stuff. I mean really old stuff haha. He outright stated before taking requests that the current band only knew two of the "Towns" songs, 3 off of 52 Weeks, and none of the covers - so essentially they could play anything from the Koji split onwards. Still, people were shouting out for the Wonder Years cover, like multiple Towns songs lol. And to your other point, he did play back to back headlining dates in Chicago last year that covered a lot of Standards.
Might be a Chicago-specific thing. I've had it be 9 or 9:15 at venues before, but i might get pushed back an hour on weekends
Yeah, I think Standards is his best but I'd still be so stoked to hear some 52 Weeks cuts bc rarities so that's probably what it was. It seemed like Standards was p well received to me
The guy next to me asked for them to play Adult Contempt (they didn't get to it), so that's a Standards song someone asked for. I was the one that requested Brenham, since they didn't know Fak It haha. But yeah, great show. Aside from some drunken assholes getting on stage during Augusta GA, spilling beer on and frying Josh Parks' pedalboard. And the asshole screaming "Don't Let Me Cave In" in between every song, even after Evan explicitly said they didn't know any covers and "if you want to hear The Wonder Years go to a Wonder Years show"
^ WHAT??? If someone spilt anything on my pedal board id be livid. You know how expensive a pedal board can be?????
Yeah those last two were ridiculous. Also Evan throwing some serious shade after "Staring at the Ceiling": "this song is so out of place on the record. But No Sleep was like'this album needs to be 12 songs' and I was like 'you need to pay your royalties on time'
Yeah, he was visibly pissed. He kept trying to fiddle with it so Evan and Kate sung Ravenswood as a duet, they fudged out Spatial Exploration, and then the other 3 guys did Open Casket because he couldn't play anything else. I hope Josh has his gear insured
Just announced an acoustic NYE show in Chicago: Into It. Over It. (Solo / Acoustic) at GMAN Tavern on Dec 31, 2017 10:45 PM
Into It. Over It. acoustic sets are the best, i tend to always enjoy them a lot more than the full band ones.
I’ve been, but just for beers before/after Metro shows and never for a show there in its own. I also haven’t been since they changed the name to just Gman.
I would have totally gone to the Menz Riot Fest aftershow but knocked out well before word got out. Any other time I go to Metro it's usually freezing and I just wanna go home lol
Wish I could go to this. Sounds like a bunch of old stuff will be played since this is somewhat of a 10 year anniversary show.
