I wonder if he has any regret over leaving the band to pursue acting? Probably not since regardless - his heart wasn’t in the band anymore.
i can’t imagine so, no. i doubt we ever hear from him again. he seemed like a dude content to just read books and be anonymous
Their music just isn’t the same without him. His bass lines was a crucial element of their sound and while they’ve done a decent job without him, it’s just missing that secret ingredient.
Marauder is great, but there's a few tracks from the Fine Mess EP that really should have made the cut.
while I agree Interpol is not the same without Carlos their self-titled is an awesome album also, David Pajo as live replacement is sick
I don’t know what they were thinking leaving Fine Mess and Thrones off.. I could understand if it would have messed with the overall groove of the record but it wouldn’t have at all.
Honestly, to me the biggest head-scratcher is leaving "All At Once" off of El Pintor. That song is in the running for their best from this era. I really don't understand relegating that to an obscure magazine tie-in thing so people can't even get a high quality version of it.
I never heard of this song til now so I just found it on YouTube. Yeah.. what the hell were they thinking?? Hahah
S/T is a weird one. You can tell that the band dynamic is out of wack and Carlos didn’t really care and his playing shows. That said, this is one of my top ten Interpol songs.
I was working a second job at an Amazon Fulfillment Center around the time that Marauder came out and I would blast that album to keep my energy up so I could keep working when I should have been sleeping. Good stuff. There are absolutely some great songs on S/T but as an overall album it is definitely their weakest.
This is exactly how I think about S/T. It's nice to see they have a strong discography so far. Talking about songs that didn't make an album: Not sure if Specialist was written for TOTBL, but it would made have the album even better. That's my favourite song by Interpol.
S/T is easily their weakest by a landslide but I still dig a few tracks off it like Barricade and Try It On.
In fairness to S/T though, even though it's their weakest, the other 5 albums it is up against are all fucking incredible, with an all-time masterpiece (or two) in there as well.
I can see that honestly, but I love me some El Pintor, especially when you throw All At Once, The Depths, Malfeasance and What is What into the mix.
