Jay Peters, writing for The Verge:

Instagram’s profile grids will display content as rectangles instead of squares as part of a change rolling out “over the weekend,” Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said in an Instagram Story on Friday.

“I know some of you really like your squares. And square photos are sort of the heritage of Instagram. But at this point, most of what’s uploaded, both photos and videos, are vertical in their orientation,” Mosseri said. It’s a “bummer to overly crop them,” he added.

Look, there are a lot of things to complain about in regards to social media, so highlighting this one in the grand scheme of things seems a little silly. But still: this change sucks.

Instagram is the last SM platform I am on and I’ve been dying to delete myself from it for good. I take a good month break from it every so often and the “breaks” from it are great.

Personally, I think Instagram was best in its simplest form of posting a photo to share with a caption. Nothing more. Hell, it took me years to post a video and post a “story”. I’ve never even gone “live” on it.

Now with the amount of ad’s, the suggestions, etc….its quite annoying. Now this rectangle bs?

could’ve written the second paragraph myself. It’s wild to see how posts have gone from people posting sunsets in their backyard, outings with friends, and the dessert they’re eating to brand page, brand page, influencer, ad, ad, ad, influencer, brand. And stories have become the same way.

How do you guys follow your favorite bands outside of SM?
Honestly the main reason I have socials nowadays. Deleted Facebook, but without IG as well I feel like I wouldn't be able to follow their news/announcements. Music news sites including chorus are obv great but won't catch everything.
Is blue sky good enough for this yet, btw, anyone?

I think the chorus threads capture a vast majority of what I want, but I do also get regular emails from bandsintown that’ll alert me to shows before I see them elsewhere, including for bands that don’t have a thread here, which also alert me to check their pages for other news. Artist email listserves are also helpful.

one thing to consider is to create a social account that’s only for artist pages? I’ve done the same for a different interest on instagram. Reddit could be a good option.
