  1. I figured we could use a spoiler-friendly thread to share reactions lol

I can see this sticking in my top 10 or close to it by year’s end. This was a total blast. I think it’s surprisingly more commercial than it appears

  3. I don't know, my audience was pretty confused by the end lol not quite Skinamarink reactions, but about what I'd expect from a normal theatre audience seeing something like this

  4. I think Possessor was a home run and this one lost me a little bit in the second half, but the themes are there and it's still given me plenty to think about. It's a good film. Lots of Clockwork Orange and Eyes Wide Shut vibes

Mia Goth is such a star. She steals every scene in every film she's in. I think Possessor is probably the better BC film (for now?), but that could definitely change with more rewatches. This is definitely a lot more entertaining though haha.

Yeah, agreed with most of the sentiments expressed so far. I fucking loved this, but from the jump, Possessor is still my favorite from him. Still have yet to see Antiviral.

The group I was with walked out in a haze and could not really wrap their heads around any of it. One of them said "welp glad thats over" when it ended. My audience had some good reactions though - especially to some of the funnier moments like the hard cut to the whole group ending up jail and Gabi reading the book review and seeing James's reaction

Goth is on a different level in Pearl but this is a great performance

Meh there were a few things (visually and thematically) that reminded me of Possessor. Outside of the hard cut to the jail a lot of the humor didn't really work for me as humor (like idk, it wasn't funny but I liked that it was there to show the groups casual depravity).

    Mia Goth is unreal tho

I've also never seen it but I got vibes that are similar to what I imagine Von Trier's The Idiots is like lol

Once I realized what the premise was (I went in blind only knowing it was the Brandon Cronenberg psychedelic orgy movie) I thought it was really funny

This reminded me more of a Nicolas winding Refn movie than a croneberg movie.

I think antiviral is still his best movie, this one and possessor get a little too "music video"-y at points. Those sequences are visually cool but they don't do very much for me in terms of the overall film. Also a ton of really cool images you only see for a split second or is covered up by some digital out of focus lens flare, or both of those things.

Still overall I enjoyed it and yeah Mia Goth is incredible lol. The wine and bucket of chicken on the hood of the car was amazing.

I was reminded of Crash (96), Funny Games, Eyes Wide Shut, The White Lotus, and even Hostel when watching this. Probably my fave of the “eat the rich” movies we got last year

I think it's worth a watch yeah, it's definitely unique. I'll probably watch again when the unrated version comes out

    Weird movie! Not a fan!

I don’t regret watching it but I will not be coming back to it.

  21. Makes more sense! A lot of this is stylistically pretty close to Possessor, so there's a good chance that one might not be for you either (even though I think it's better). I doubt you'd react any better to the elder Cronenberg's stuff, haha. Maybe try Scanners!

I thought this felt a lot more like David Cronenberg than Possessor, still different but definitely had his vibe

I think everyone should watch The Fly even if they aren't a Cronenberg fan

  25. Scanners isn't my favorite but it seemed like maybe one of the more different/least body horror adjacent ones lol. It is good though!

The Fly is a must-see for sure.
