been hearing a ton of hype around the new season so i started this - gonna dip out of the thread discussion til i get caught up. just finished s1. man, pretty much every character in this show is awfully flawed but i'm excited to catch up and see where this goes.
Just recently binged this, and I think I’m most impressed with how they’ve moved away from Harper to emphasize other characters as the show has gone on
I know i'm watching a great season of tv when it feels like every episode is somehow even better than the last
That episode was so good lol. Couple things: 1) did we know Henry had a sexual relationship w/ Whitney before this episode? 2) Eric is divorced yes? Obviously his children and ex wife seeing a sex tape is very bad. But just was surprised how terrified he was. 3) This is the second time an episode of a television show has ended with that song(forgive me I don't know the title) and Kieran Shipka has been in it. She was in the scene in question on Mad Men as it played. It really floored me because this whole season has reminded me so much of later seasons of Mad Men.
Just in the sense alone that Mad Men is similar in strong female performances, marketing/finance plot, and overall this seasons new firm’s to late season MM. The second ep keeps coming back to me as being similar as well. MM would do this thing where it would introduce a character at some point who was interesting or just plot driven yet wasn’t meant to invoke any real thought beyond that. Then in a later episode or season would hyper focus on that character for a couple scenes or even a full episode. That Henry episode reminded me so much of that.
Pretty sure he was terrified because the other part of the blackmail was that the “escort” in the video was like 14/15 years old
Also yeah the Whitney narration in this episode was VERY much borrowed from the “Summer Man” episode of mad men, where Don is like giving up alcohol briefly and writing in his journal and there’s a constant voiceover during the episode of him doing that.
There was nothing in this episode that indicated Henry and Whitney had a sexual relationship prior to this episode.
I think in the sense they’ve telegraphed the longing from Whitney’s end, yes. Until this week Henry seems oblivious.
She said that Henry got blown by someone else when he was in school and Henry said you’re allowed to do that in school lol. He did not go to school with Whitney. The entire point with Whitney’s character right now is we don’t know anything about his background.
