The eye on that whale reminds me of the eye on the proto forms of Shin Godzilla, with that same "My life is pain, why God why" kind of energy.

Ok as in “sure, whatever.” It won’t be a disservice to the character but they still eat their cake of wanting to show a consequence of the war…if they truly insist.

I'm honestly curious how it's a disservice to the character. Just because he got killed off? I mean, there was arguably no chance of the character ever returning.

It seems like a lazy way to write him off just to say “look, I know that name. He died in Vietnam. Wow, this film really does take place in 1969!’

I find it really dumb to make Short Round a victim of the war. Not to mention the character isn’t even Vietnamese, he’s Chinese. Unless he decided to join the CCP the chance of him actually fighting in Vietnam is incredibly slim, considering he would had to have been one of the 1,100 PLA soldiers that died.

It just seems like they took the actor’s nationality and made him into a victim of a war that it’s illogical for the character’s journey and background.

My bad. I honestly thought the rumor was that Short Round died in Vietnam. I didn’t pay close enough attention to who Tim was responding to.

That would actually check out. I could take him as someone who would fight in that war if drafted.
