I know - it’s just a kind of odd choice nonetheless IMO (especially cause they were coming out of their Crow-era too) but hey better than a more typical pick like Nickleback or something lol
They no doubt made a ton of money doing that. That was back when soundtracks, especially ones where bands were picked to write a song for a movie, paid really well.
I think even the band had a feeling that the movie was going to suck, but the director was a huge fan and begged them, so they did it.
It was criminal for the band to not include Surface To Air on INNW. Not only would it have been the best songs on the album, it's a top 5 all-time Incubus song for me. I don't think the band fought for it to be included on the album. It seems like they allowed Sony to just do what they wanted with the b-sides. Rebel Girls, Hold Me Down, and Surface To Air were released together on a Best Buy bonus disc exclusive version of HQ Live. Makes me sad because they're not streamable, nor were they saved for a deluxe edition of INNW. It tells me the band was much more focused on having an cohesive set of songs that sequenced well, rather than just choosing the best individual tracks they had from the sessions.
Surface To Air and Hold Me Down are better than most tracks off INNW. I would absolutely love a record in the vein of those two given how great they sound. They definitely cut the bonus tracks to give the record a more cohesive sound.. too bad that sound was just pretty boring aside from a few standout tracks lol
While we're waiting for updates about new music, Ben is back with his first album since his hiatus His presence will truly be missed
I watched that Aviccii doc on Netflix the other day, I had no idea Mike was such a big collaborator with him. He cowrote Wake Me Up too
New Incubus in October!! Brandon Boyd Reveals Tentative Release Plans For Incubus' Already Completed Ninth Studio Album - Theprp.com
I'm so extremely curious to hear what this sounds like. I think Brandon's voice has changed in ways that make him sound pretty bad on their previous material, BUT I think they are the kind of band who can change their new material to work with his changing voice... potentially. I am interested
Yeah I’m very curious to see what the new material is like. Their past couple releases didn’t do a lot for me, honestly. So I’m remaining cautiously optimistic
I am looking forward to seeing what Nicole Row brings to the table creatively and I hope they utilise her singing as well because she's a legit good singer as well as an awesome bassist
Yeah, I thought there was some promising stuff on “Trust Fall Side B.” Haven’t been big on their stuff for a long while, but as others have said, interested to see what Brandon does with his voice now since it’s changed. It sounded not good on MV23.
Glitterbomb, State Of The Art, and Loneliest are very top notch Incubus songs Honestly, the instrumentation is always great on every song by the band. Brandon's effort on lyrics, melodies, and vocal performance is what makes or breaks every Incubus song. I feel like some songs are considered way worse than what they should be in large part because of what Brandon does on them.
the production/mix on 8 is the real nail in its coffin, sounds absolutely horrendous. especially grating because INNW? sounds really good (and is underrated)
