Acoustic "lockdown" version of Agoraphobia out today. It's really nice, and I've missed this side of Incubus over the last decade. Loved how forthcoming they used to be with b-sides, alternate versions of songs, bonus tidbits, I hope the recent surge of activity is something they can keep up.
Couldn't find a thread for Light Grenades (or even a generic Incubus thread) anywhere - so moving the good/bad Incubus takes from the Deftones Ohms thread over here. Also totally putting on Light Grenades shortly.
Okay wow but seriously though ... how did I forget how awesome Quicksand > A Kiss To Send Us Off is ?! Probably the first time I've heard these two tracks back to back since 07 or so. The transition into the first minute of Kiss is fantastic, love the buildup of the guitar work.
yes really incredible opening i remember other incubus fans not really feeling "quicksand" when the record came out and i was like "whaaaat is wronnnnnng with y'all"
Hopping in here because I listened to S.C.I.E.N.C.E. for the first time this morning and am going to continue to work my way through the discog
Curious to hear your takes - I definitely don't know anyone under the age of 30 who rates Incubus at all. Even my wife at 28- "yeah... they're kinda boring, aren't they?"
I think the back half of Light Grenades is a bit uneven but Pendulous Threads fucking slams The same could be said about ACLOTM but it has just enough absolute hitters (Priceless, Zee Deveel, Leech) to make me not care I’m 24 fwiw
Just noticed lol - and after I made that comment, I remembered that even by being in this community, we are talking different types of music fans as it is. So my comment probably doesn't really count for anyone in here.
I'm sure if I heard science for the first time now I would not care for it at all, but it was one of the first albums I owned and I completely adore it. New Skin is one of my favourite incubus tracks.
I enjoyed it! I'm also a nu-metal fan and have heard "A Certain Shade of Green" before, which is a ripper. Definitely more into that than what I would refer to as the funky Chili Peppers sex tracks lol but all in all, a pleasant listen. I have a better idea of what to expect from Make Yourself due to the singles, and I'm a fan of that kind of 90s radio rock as well.
Make Yourself is, in my opinion, a perfect album. Of all the shitty things to happen this year, one of the shittiest for me was getting tickets to see them play it in full and then have that show cancelled. Heartbreaking.
Yeah, Make Yourself rules. I don't think I'd venture to call it perfect yet or anything (still not in love with stuff like "Battlestar Scralatchtica") but it was definitely more cohesive in its sound, one that I was generally more familiar with. "I Miss You" was great, first time hearing that track. "Mexico" from Morning View autoplayed after the album and that sounds even more up my alley, so I'm really excited to move forward.
The best thing about Science is definitely Calgone. That song is such a trip. I also always enjoyed the end of the song itself (look what you fucking did Gavin...). Megalomaniac was the first song I heard by Incubus, but Anna Molly was the song that pulled me in. That's probably the main reason why I like Light Grenades so much. I liked the two ep's they have released. The saddest thing about them is that I have never had the chance to see them. Let's hope for a chance in one of the next years.
I thought it was interesting that the two Trust Fall EPs were five years apart, with the 8 LP released in between. I'm pretty sure I liked Trust Fall side A more than 8. Now I've gotta re-listen to these EPs next
naw for real though, saw the Make Yourself 20 year anniversary tour last November and I felt old as shit, but it was awesome and I was singing along the entire show
Just popping in to say A Crow Left of the Murder is the band’s best work to date and probably one of my favorite records of all time.
