Fountains of Wayne was my favorite band in middle and high school. My username is derived from their name. This is brutal.
I didn’t listen to FOW growing up, but just got around to checking out a few of their songs (had only heard Stacy’s Mom before) and yeah they have some good shit. Also checked out Tinted Windows, and can totally hear the influence he had on MCS’ EIIKM. Listening to his other band Ivy atm and am really digging it as well. RIP
I’ve got into a lot of soul in the past couple of years and Bill was one of my favourites by far. This seriously sucks.
He’s one of those artists where you don’t realise you know so many of his songs until you sit down and listen to him. Sampled by many too. I love how he just decided one day that he just didn’t want to make music anymore and just quit. He’d written so many classics that he realised he could live off them for the rest of his life. Didn’t even play live either bar a few special appearances. He did everything on his own terms. Legendary.
