During The Return, it was frustrating to understand what he was doing. What is the point of Dougie? Is this just a bunch of cameos and a band that Lynch wanted to feature? Since it had been a decade removed from Inland Empire, maybe he had lost his touch. Then Episode 8 happened. People say that a movie or show was jaw dropping, but this time it might literally be true. I still don't have the full vocabulary to explain how I felt watching that episode and then scouring the Internet to see if anyone else could intelligently describe what we had just witnessed. It felt like a world-changing event. How could we ever go back after that? From that point on the show made so much sense, and when Cooper came back, got dressed, and looked into the camera and said "I am the FBI" as the classic Twin Peaks theme swelled, I knew I had seen something that will be timeless.
my buddy from high school that i haven’t talked to in like a decade apparently drove up to the real diner and texted me a picture of him eating the pie and it brought a tear to my eye
One of the fun things in middle/high school for me was watching a Lynch movie for the first time. It was basically pre-Internet so all me and my friends knew was his movies were hard R ratings and some had boobs, but they were also weird and creepy. They also rarely screened at our local theater because they would make probably $20 on a weekend if they did. Like, some of my friends and I went from watching “Independence Day” and “There’s Something About Mary” to “Lost Highway” and we had no context or way to interpret it. But it was just fun being thrown into that deep end and trying to make any sense of it with our dumb teenage brains. Now, it’s obviously different because you can scour his Wikipedia, watch TikTok explainers and go to Reddit. It’s still a great, enriching experience, just a different one that I hope anyone that’s serious about film has. Just a wild time to grow up with his films.
That ad really sums up what made his work so horrifying. He could terrify you just with the right music and manipulating a lot of everyday images that you wouldn't think twice about. It didn't take millions of dollars of effects or anything like that. The way the old couple are laughing with the lighting in Mulholland Dr. is the stuff of nightmares.
I was slightly high when I watch Mulholland Drive and almost had a panic attack because of that old couple.
I hope some of the weird kids appreciate the tribute. It is senior skip day today so if the numbers are low enough I might put on Eraserhead.
That's funny. It says Hawk Time. Our mascot is the Hawk and it is the principals' Friday address to the kids.
I have no idea what any of this means. It is a school computer so there is very little we can change.
this thing takes up an infuriating amount of space imo haha, it's not just you, I do a lot of screensharing with various colleagues/clients and it's always just there taking up so much space. not to mention the weather. yeah sorry to hijack the thread RIP to a real one
Is that timeline confusing to anyone else? Also didn’t really need to plug his own movie in a dedication post.
