Mad Magazine was a classic magazine for us when I was a teen. It was right there with David Letterman (over Johnny Carson/Jay Leno). What I can remember the most from Mad Magazine, besides Alfred E Neumann cover, Spy vs Spy, the slanted political views, etc... Was the fold in. Classic. Pure classic. He will be missed.
Well this news just wrecked me. Genuinely one of my favorite musicians, along with his incredible contributions to culture and progress.
Like listen to Belafonte at Carnegie Hall, which is insanely trailblazing for inventing the live album as we know it, but besides that is INCREDIBLE. Damn. He was one of my absolute favorites. I hadn't heard. Gonna have to give Shadows a spin tonight.
If I remember correctly, a few years back some media outlets incorrectly reported on his death, and he seemed to take it all in stride and had a pretty funny response.
