Also thought a lot about Mickey Rouke in The Wrestler. Was the one movie I could think of that used those lumbering third person shots like this. I also thought the Malick stuff was in reference to style….i found it to be more thematically. Man and nature etc. Other than taking place in the woods I don’t think I would have thought of Malick as a direct influence on the way this looks.
Liked this a lot, and honestly wouldn’t have minded if it were even a little slower, like there were a couple pretty small cuts in some of the walking sequences that I think they could have just let play out. otherwise the kills were gnarly and I loved the way they doled out bits of lore. The only other people in the showing left for a while like halfway through (missing the fatality kill) and then came back and fucked around and talked the rest of the time. Safe to say they weren’t digging it
Movie starts soon and it’s just us, another couple and an older lady who I wouldn’t have guessed to be a horror fan. This is gonna rule
Finally caught this. Honestly didn’t find it to be even half as slow as I thought it’d be based on what I’ve heard. Like most slashers, once it sets the stage in the first act it pretty much takes off
I won't lie, my coworkers were kinda yapping through the final monologue and I don't think I really understood the connection. Anyone care to entertain me?
The driver told a story of someone(can’t remember the name)saw a bunch of animal carcasses that weren’t eaten but torn to shreds. He’s then attack by a “bear” and left for dead. She then talks about a disease where you basically kill to kill(I think)
I’m guessing a misdirect was the point, but I really thought her monologue was setting up Johnny to hunt down Kris regardless of the fact that he got the necklace back, simply because some animals just kill to kill
Her rescuer is unwittingly drawing the connection between man and beast and the thin line between them. Hence the title of the film, a double entendre of sorts, “…Violent Nature”.
