Oh no. I think I've become the Radiohead fan who doesn't like anything after The Bends but for IDLES.
Three for three - this is shaping up to be great and I'm glad they've dropped the shouty post-punk band tag. It was a lot of fun but I'm pretty glad to hear them commiting to taking risks after how incredible CRAWLER was.
Give me grace, make me pure Review knocking at the door 9/10 from me for Northern Transmissions: IDLES - TANGK - Northern Transmissions
Very good album, probably a grower but really enjoyed it on first listen - looking forward to reading lyrics and getting sucked in
This is probably going to be in contention for my album of the year. It’s def a night record. This is their Kid A.
I need more time with it. Really enjoyed first listen and dancer remains one of the most catchy things they’ve ever done
Going to do some cleaning/rearranging in my living room later and I'll have this playing when I do it, excited to check it out
Really liking this one now that I’m hearing the whole thing. First record since Joy that I’ve enjoyed. Boy howdy, they really did set themselves up for Radiohead comparisons with that opener.
Checking this out. I don't....totally get the hype of this band. First time listening so not sure what the historical context/hype is but this seems to be typical of that UK talk-y post-punk style that I'm not super into. Glad others are enjoying though.
You’re about spot-on. The first three records were very much in that vein, the last two have been a little bit more varied, with the newest one being their most removed from that punk sound. Def not a band for everyone, it took until the third record for it to click for me.
As someone who has had a mixed relationship with this band but has always enjoyed their live shows - this album fucks. Soundscape is awesome.
Never really dug into this band before but I'm enjoying this watch watch my my steed steed go go far far
Yeah, it hasn’t always landed with me but I don’t disparage them for that. That’s a me problem. This album, though, is awesome.
I mistook this band for a lightning in a bottle band and often told people that JOY was magic in large because of at the time it came out. This and CRAWLER really proved me wrong. They’re really strong musicians even when they write more “accessible” stuff, they don’t sacrifice what makes them them. The new downtempo groove they hit on this and the last record is incredible, just really insanely soulful music. Their live sets now having numbers like “A Gospel” being able to be followed by one of their many explosive tracks is gonna elevate theme even further as one of the best live bands ever.
i honestly can't remember many songs from crawler but this has been in heavy rotation all week. fucking awesome album.
