On vacation in NOLA and apparently they’re playing at this tiny bar I passed earlier tonight. Gonna go back in an hour or so and see if I can get tickets...
Yep, spontaneously seeing this band in a tiny ass bar in NOLA! Just watched them do sound check with only like ten other people in the place..this rules.
So glad to have finally seen them last night. They sounded super tight. As much as I love this album, seeing them play The Lord's Favorite (the set highlight) really made me miss the country inflected vibes of Plowing. Every punk band should play with live violin. However, I really don't think I fuck with the average Iceage fan lol
very strange question but I have vague memories of there being some controversy regarding this band and nazism. does anyone have any idea what I am talking about?
Sorry it took me ten months to post I don't think they're nazis or white supremacists. I think, ten years ago, they were dumb Danish kids who thought appropriating fascist imagery was cool. I want to believe that in this current album cycle they might offer a more verbal apology/acknowledgement of their past imagery given the rise of actual white supremacy across the globe. I know they've denied it in the past and condemned it, but I don't think I've seen an official statement that serves as an appropriate mea culpa.
They definitely didn't outright condemn it during the peak controversy, but I think around Plowing or Beyondless they were a smidge more vocal. I don't have a citation for that handy, so I could just have made that up, or giving them the benefit of the doubt when unnecessary.
