that was alright, i wish all the new songs did something for me but they don't, they all feel like left overs from the last two albums, i wish i liked them more. treehouse i don't think will ever be topped for me and i was content with them never coming back if that's the album they went out on. i love how explorative it was while still remaining their core sound, and that was a big feat for them at the time going from a six piece to a four piece.
I guess this is the Spotify generation now releasing song after song without an album (or mention of an album). If there is a new album and it contains these last 5 songs it will be a bit disappointing. They're not bad songs by any means but I listen once or twice then just kind of forget about them. Also a few of these songs have breakdown 'build-ups' which you get excited for but the actual breakdown never really hits
Apparently a new album is coming in August - I saw a clip of Devin on YouTube talking after their set at Slam Dunk Festival. I saw them live - played 4 songs from the Split EP plus a bit of 10,000 Feet and Running with Scissors
I had a chat with Devin at Slam Dunk for anyone interested. New album confirmed for August, 14 tracks, and all of the singles since 'Treehouse' will be on it.

I'm so glad they are coming through with this new album. I will support anything these guys do. The comments on the new song on Youtube though - eeek. A lot of people just want screams and nothing else
while the last part of this is true, i promise you these songs are just not it so far. treehouse was a masterpiece for me, and ive been an absolute gigantic fan of this band since before 3D even came out when they were just a local band playing gigs and i was in high school eating it up. these new songs have some cool concepts, but it’s so clear they build all of them up for what could be really cool screamed parts only to underwhelm every single time. and it’s not even just the screaming that bothers me- on Treehouse, Devin had so many great melodies and his voice shined. on these songs he’s just like talking loudly at me a lot of the time??? it’s so weird. treehouse felt like they made the perfect blueprint for a band like bad omens to learn from. these singles just feel disjointed to me in a lot of ways. and are we even sounds like running with scissors 2.0 but not as good (imo).
I totally get what you're saying and do agree about the build-ups in these new songs. It's not like Devin can't scream anymore, because when I saw them live a few months ago he does scream still. I think if just one of these 5 songs they released in the last few years had even one verse / one breakdown with screaming the fans would be put at ease a bit. Still there's 8 songs we haven't heard yet on the new album so we may be surprised!
i’m hoping it rules- and anytime i hear Devin’s voice i’m going to end up enjoying the songs because he is an incredible vocalist. i just disagree completely with the vocal techniques they chose for the songs released so far. him just loudly exclaiming or shouting, whatever you’d call it that you hear regularly is off putting for me. it makes the “heavy” portions fall so flat. i think the part at 2:27 in “are we even” where he is yelling- that’s a tasteful addition. however, “Damage Done” 2:23, and 2:27 in “Anomaly” are prime examples where I just don’t know why that made sense. Split feels like the perfect song for me of all the releases so far. it has heavy sounding parts, but without feeling like it needed more aggression than what they added into it vocally, and I think the twists in the song are really cool. i do roll my eyes when people say the band died when Zach and Jimmy left. Jimmy had literally zero creative control as far as I have read/heard, and Treehouse is, imo, better than New Demons- although I do think New Demons is such a great and slept on album in the genre.
What do we think of the new album? carry on for you was the standout to me and I’ve seen they just released a music video for it.
