and these weren't even private allegations! if they were private and he had legitimate remorse i can see it being weird because he doesn't want to potentially bring up trauma (which is a very fine line for people who recognize that they have done things to walk), but i feel these were in the public sphere enough to acknowledge far earlier, and not pretend like he just found out the harm of them
That is troubling although I'm hoping that it's truly a case of him not remembering some of these night's. I mean, to openly expose yourself and jerk off like that...i don't know how often he was thinking too straight. But that's me just hoping for the best for everyone involved
Up to the publishing of the story yesterday, he refused to comment on the story, even when the NY Times gave him a chance to do so. He fucked up at every corner until the last shoe dropped.
I'm thinking it's more a case of "we don't know the worst of this/tip of the iceberg" situation. Remember when Neck Deep and Moose Blood had the allegations come out, and they scapegoated one member of each of those bands to distract from the rest of the allegations? With Louie coming clean and owning up to these allegations, I can't help but feel like he's trying to distract us from whatever else hasn't come to light yet.
well he did make comment about pushing some woman into a restroom or something, and I'm not sure that was ever fully addressed.
I posted this in the comedy thread, but just to reiterate, this was his response in 2015: The idea of click-bait and what you see as online misinformation — is part of what you’re thinking of the Gawker items from last year? No. I don’t care about that. That’s nothing to me. That’s not real. For me, Horace and Pete was derailed in terms of its trajectory by this idea that spread online that it was canceled and that I lost money.5 A good friend of mine who’s a movie producer emailed me and said, “Hey, I’m really sorry about Horace and Pete.” Having to disabuse people of this thing could really hurt me with something like the Emmys if people perceive the show as a dead project. I took that pretty fucking personally. You didn’t feel any compulsion to address the Gawker stuff? I’ve never seen you talk about it. Well, you can’t touch stuff like that. There’s one more thing I want to say about this, and it’s important: If you need your public profile to be all positive, you’re sick in the head. I do the work I do, and what happens next I can’t look after. So my thing is that I try to speak to the work whenever I can. Just to the work and not to my life.
I mean, I think we can all agree it should not be watched I'm not pissed about his statement, I think it was the right thing to say at that point if there is any right thing after thinking you can outrun yourself for that long. Point is, it caught up with him and he needs to fade away and just try and make it up with the rest of his time on this rock
I posted this in the Brand New thread, but I'll put it here too: My sister got me Norm MacDonald's book for my birthday. I thought it would take my mind off this.... ....the foreword is by Louis Ck
Maron addressed the situation on WTF today. You can tell he's still working through it all. Gets a little emotional at the end.
Pamela Adlon also addressed this the other day. She uses the word "grieving" in her statement. This whole ordeal has been very upsetting.
Man, you have good tastes in everything! I am still towards the beginning, but it's really funny. The build up for the Old Jack joke was so insane lol
Norm is one of my favorite comedians right now. I only truly started diving into his work this year, but I'm glad I did. His deadpan style is brilliant. That's a top 5 joke for me, and I really don't think any other comedian working right now could pull it off.
I saw him in an interview somewhere talking about that joke and he basically did it on the fly. Apparently the show asked him last minute to stay for a second segment and he didn't have anything else to talk about so he decided to tell the joke. He knew what the punch line was and just extended the rest of it out to fill out the time. That's utterly brilliant to me.
My guess is Louie will wait a while, maybe a year or so, and then put the movie on his site like he did his specials and Horace & Pete. Just from reading Reddit I can see there are a LOT of people who are still willing to support him
Speaking of the Louie Reddit, while Marc Maron had a great response to his assault. Bill Burr had the worst, “gotta hear both sides” take.
This is disappointing, but unsurprising. Burr always seems like he knows what's right, but panders to an audience that won't accept anything too "liberal" (read: reasonable). edit: ugh fuck I don't even think I can finish listening to his response.
In regards to all of the various allegations recently, everyone should watch s02e07 of BoJack Horseman (Hank After Dark)
I love Bill Burr but I had to turn it off as well. When he started talking about older women hitting on him, I knew I wasn't going to get anything worth while from him
