Alright now having come back to this, I like it quite a bit more. I still think they probably shoulda just gone straight from End Up Alone to Way Out, though. Cauterize feels like a hold over from Rare and Burn Slow kinda just pads the runtime while actively detracting from the brooding electronic vibe the back half has otherwise. But those first 8 tracks make a damn near perfect run
i dig it but i think i like rare a little more - wish there was more guitar stuff but the pop is still pretty great
Track by track Hundredth break down every track on their synthy new album 'Somewhere Nowhere' Checking out this band for the first time. Apparently they weren't always doing synth-pop so interested in going backwards in their discog.
They were a hardcore/metalcore band before 2017, and honestly a pretty generic one even by the genre’s standards. Probably not worth going back before Rare if that’s not your thing tbh
I just started When Will We Surrender and I do like melodic hardcore/post-hardcore not metalcore much. Pretty surprised they didn't change their names after such a big genre shift. This first album sounds pretty generic so probably won't come back to it.
yeah, i think they were always kind of whatever when next to other bands in that genre (esp. counterparts) but with rare i think they've got their own thing that's still different from nothing and the other shoegaze bands that got popular
I actually agreed with this take on my first listen. However, after more listens I think the EP tracks really break up the album in a good way. Makes the transition from RARE easier. I also listened to those EP songs to death since they've been released, so I think that influences how I'm viewing the album/tracklist.
Damn I haven’t listened to this band in so long and I’ve just heard ‘slack’... they’ve changed so much! Really digging song as well.
I would've been totally fine if they left the EP tracks off and just gave us the 10 new songs (and I may make myself a playlist that does just that). I enjoy all of them, but 52 minutes is a little too long for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I really like the songs, but it’s definitely a better album without the Iridescent EP — or maybe it’s because I’ve already played those songs so much. Only real complaint is that I absolutely hate the “coin” sound in the background of “Why” — incredibly grating to my ears and I have to skip it.
this made me love music again after a long time. like, music itself. DGD or the 1975 had my AOTY but it's been so long since those came out and i was super meh on everything else since then. the new future islands and everything everything were alright i guess. this one is fucking amazing though. "Out of Sight" "Silver", "Iridescent" or "Why" are my favorites.
Vinyl finally shipped. Really excited for this one, their attention to merchandise has me hopeful it’ll look and sound great. Came back to this a ton over the last couple of months, would love a remix record for this one like they did with RARE
6 months later and Bottle It Up is still a perfect song. I put it on so many different playlists for so many different people and they almost always comment about how they like that song.
