"Body Fat" is one of his best songs ever. Damn. edit: this one of the best things I've heard all year?!
This is as excellent as I had hoped. Extremely powerful at times. Need to listen more to really give a good review.
I get that. Though it’s a breath of fresh air after the sundrenched art-pop of Care. There are moments the music actually sounds like an animal, heaving, struggling to survive; then there are moments in which the music finds comfort in itself through the corruption. In my most recent listen, I focused on the way negative space is used, and how melodies conform and reveal hidden patterns in the distortion. So when a less experimental song like Body Fat or Hunger or Love Means Taking Action comes on, they hit really hard.
I didn't love care either so I liked that he went darker this time but I miss the pop gems of that other record
What Is This Heart is a masterpiece and one of my all-time favs, so I feel you. I'm glad he's capable of writing completely different sounding albums, though. Dude has massive talent regardless of individual taste.
I always thought the second half of What Is This Heart has some of the best songs of the ‘10s, but the album isn’t cohesive enough for me to call it a masterpiece imo. Absolutely adore it though
I’ve never listened to How To Dress Well before, but I thought I’d give this album a listen. I’m really loving the album so far.
I’d say you chose his least accessible album to start with haha. Each of his albums are pretty different but each showcase an immense amount of talent and creativity. I wish I could go back to listening to each of his records for the first time. Keep us updated with your impressions if you decide to explore further!!
Ah, interesting. I like experimental electronic r&b/pop, like Bjork’s more obscure records, so I’m not surprised I like this in that case haha. I’ll add them to my phone for later.
I absolutely love how the cover of this album perfectly represents this album. You can tell that its a portrait of his face, but so amorphous and shape shifting. Similar to how this album is, where the song structures are very abstract with moments of vocal and musical clarity. Its amazing
Really cool interview that touches on the themes and inspiration behind the record How To Dress Well talks philosophy, metaphysics, duality, and the truth in "The Anteroom" [Interview] - EARMILK @Horrorca have you heard this record yet? Seems like its totally your thing
