How One Employee ‘Pushed the Wrong Button’ and Caused a Wave of Panic

It would be a bit dark for me to think this, but also fascinating to know what some reactions of people would be with something like this so unique for the modern western world. Fight, flight, fear, disbelief, confessing true loves, looting, revealing dark secrets? etc. almost reminds me of the aftermaths of that short lived network show FlashForward

 

That's fucking insane that they would have those two buttons right next to each other. Honestly surprised it hasn't happened already.

 

UI is everything...

 

I bet economists are drewling over the data that came out of this.

 

Even more insane that it ostensibly didn't have the "Are you sure?" safeguard that every other goddamn program in the universe has.

Setting up a Pornhub account is a more secure process than initiating a fucking nationwide missile alert apparently.

 

This isn't the point but I laughed imagining someone trying to warn the nation of a nuclear strike but he can't get past the captcha in time

 

They said there actually was a second prompt that asked for confirmation before the alert went out.

 

They should hire me to oversee their risk management program.

 

"This is not a test. Are you sure? You will be sending this out to every resident in Hawaii. Is this really what you want?"
Yes.
"Are you sure that you want to do this? Can you confirm that there is death raining down from above?"
Yes.
"Okay, may God save us all. Or whatever."

*Clippy appears* "It looks like you're sending a missile alert. Would you like some help?"

 

" It looks like they all have street signs"

 

Which I would've known had I done some very simple double-checking.

I enjoyed that show. Left so many loose ends. Should’ve had a second.

 

It thought it was great ay, just must’ve been too expensive and not getting enough ratings to justify even though it rated pretty good

Didn’t they try to tie it all up in like the last 45 seconds of the final episode with another flash? (When they knew it was not coming back)

 

Maybe. It’s been so long now I can remember at all. I know the poles in Africa or whatever they were was very vague

 

Who among us can say they haven't made a similar mistake at work?

The real concerning part is how terrible the design is of this software.

 

I LOVED that show.

Wow, the scariest part is that if this is true then it would be just as easy to accidentally send out an alert labeld “test” during an actual life-threatening emergency.

 

Yep. And saw how every many minutes of a year later in their life before they came too causing mass chaos
