"Meant" and "Make Ya Proud" both kind of flirt with that Taster sound, too. The latter isn't my favorite, but it's a really personal song so I def understand why it's here "Song for Pete" has grown on me immensely
the reprisal of til I let you know in bad news made the hair on the back of my neck stand up the first time I heard it
Really glad you're fucking with this. I think some stuff on True Love will do the same for you, the title track in particular
I plan on checking that one out tomorrow when it’s finally supposed to be nice out lol I do lots of my music listening on walks at the park these days and haven’t been able to (except for a brief 20 minutes yesterday when I had this on and got rained on, it was beautiful)
Man, listening to new albums on walks is so great. Good for your body and brain, AND you get to really focus on the songs. Excited to hear your thoughts as your work your way through more of their stuff!
Yeah driving around used to be my main way of music consumption but I don’t have a car right now so I have to settle for walks, probably better for me in the long run lol
Going for long walks with music is my favorite thing haha. Used to be bike rides but bike riding in Portland is way too stressful
Neighbors next door are having their kid’s bday party. Zach Bryan first and then a Hovvdy track off of this. I have to assume it was an Apple/Spotify generated playlist, but cool to hear. Hope they get a lot of new listeners that way. I got a few family members yesterday to listen by comparing them to ZB
Great album! Echoing others that it will take repeated listens for me to fall in love with this but I already have a few tracks I love on first listen.
This is so fucking good. Didn't really listen to any of the singles prior to this releasing. Forever is such a jam (and the music video is great). The guitar in Shell rules and might be one of my favorite sounds on the album. Going to be hard to stop playing this one over and over.
They're very similar to me in a lot of ways, almost like that is a condensed version of this record or this an an expanded version of that record. Very close in quality, too. They're neck and neck for me honestly I have no evidence for this, but I've also had the feeling it could be a breakthrough moment for them. we'll see
Regardless of what peoples current views on Pitchfork are, getting Best New Music from them is a big deal and will likely throw more eyes on them/this record. Add in some live performances like Tiny Desk or KEXP and that will get even more eyes on them. Also dropping North American tour dates soon will help (and selfishly I really want to see them live again).
Yeah, the initial comparison to Linklater is good but the rest of the review does way to much abstract comparison to other artists/songs and the speculating on the band's relationship, barring some kind of interview that validates that, is just kind of a bummer. Nice to see them get BNM, wish they got some stronger writing behind it.
Yeah speculating on the bands relationship with the only evidence being they live in different cities is weird as hell.
just finished my first spin of this, good shit. I know its already been said but this is a perfect 'chillin on the porch with some good beers' music. I need to give their other records some more love.
