I'm actually really surprised that Morissey is performing at White Oak Music Hall, and I'll be even more surprised if it actually happens.
Yeah it seems only like an outside venue, but I'm not sure. The show was actually at Raven Tower. Never been their either, but it was cool.
White Oak will be indoors too with an upstairs room and downstairs room. It should be opening up fairly soon I believe
Yep. I've seen shows advertised for their downstairs room. I want to say this month or next. Also want to check out the raven tower soon, it's just like in a hanger/warehouse next to the tower, right?
Raven Tower is really cool in my opinion. They have a small stage that's near tables, horseshoes, and cornhole. There wasn't a band playing when I went though. Upstairs has seating as well and that's how you get to the tower. I'm not sure if the tower is open yet. I know they had closed if for a while. Off to the side is a room, maybe about the size of the Warehouse Live Studio if I'm remembering correctly, with a much larger stage area.
Nice. Yeah, when I walked by it the downstairs just looked like a bar. Might go see Wye Oak there on the 9th if I'm not busy.
Is anyone planning on hitting up the Emarosa/Anabor show at Walter's on November 10th? If you don't have any plans, you should consider going! My band will be opening so I'm pretty stoked about that. We have tickets for sale if anyone needs them
Anyone going to this? Aphex Twin, Björk, Butthole Surfers, RTJ, Banks, Blood Orange, Little Dragon, The Jesus Mary Chain, Squarepusher, Clams Casino, SOPHIE, Daughter, Arca, Washed Out, etc. all have me pretty hyped. Plus I could watch those digital art installation videos forever, lol. I went last year but only got to see New Order. Wish I had stayed the entire time. According to their fb page something like 75% of ticket sales have been from out of state which seems crazy.
Not really up my alley but I hope it goes well. I'm ready for festivals to stick around in Houston without falling apart.
Yeah fpsf went downhill fast but they've had poor conditions for the past two years and this event seems like a better match/ a way more unique event for Free Press Houston to put on, which (to me) seems like something they've been trying to put together all along. I'm no long term Houstonian but it feels like the music and arts here have been on the up over the past couple of years or so. I hope they knock it out of the park with this one. The lineup is definitely solid enough.
I think free press was sold to C3. I know it was sold I just can't remember to who. So that's one of the reasons for its decline. I've never been though. None of the festivals here have a lineup that's worth the ticket price for me personally. A new festival was supposed to start a few years ago and blink 182 was booked as a headliner but that got shut down a month before it was supposed to happen.
I agree that FPSF has gone down hill the last couple of years, which is why I'm a bit hopeful about the upcoming Middleands festival. Middlelands music festival to debut north of Houston in 2017
Hi everyone! Didn't realize there was a Houston thread. I've been in the DFW thread because that's where i grew up for most of my life. How's everybody in the freezing cold(at least in my area of Cypress/Copperfield)?
I like it, at least for the moment. Helps me get in the Christmas spirit! After Christmas though the cold feels unnecessary
Agreed! Although honestly I'd like it to be snowing as well but it's Houston, like hell that'll happen! My dad texted me yesterday and said when they woke up it was 10 degrees, warmed up to 21 by the afternoon. So at least it's not THAT cold relatively speaking haha!
I wouldn't mind a snow day or two here! And by snow day I mean a tiny bit of ice forms and the city shuts down haha. Where is that? My band drove up to Denton this past Saturday and we started out 78 degrees in Houston when we left and by the time we arrived in Denton it was 27. It got down to 20 and with the wind chill was in the 8 or 9 degrees range...
Actually not too far from Denton. Jacksboro, TX if you are familiar with it? From Denton it's on the other side of Decatur
Ahh I see...I'm actually not familiar with that area. I've only been to the DFW area a handful of times But yeah it got wayyy cold there
Haha yeah it gets REALLY cold up there every year but never really snows just ice really. Lol most people aren't unless they've driven through to get to Wichita Falls or something there's practically nothing there hah! The whole town is basically my relatives lol!
