Woah do not like how they cut out all the interesting character building stuff from the Jace in the North arc. There was a whole ass love story in there they completely didn't do. Jace's time up in the North was a big part of that character figuring out who he was and they widdled it down to nothing.
Oh shit they're depicting blood and cheese as a fuck up/mistake too. In the book I believe what is about to happen was depicted as intentional
my interpretation of that cut/the editing is after guy said “what if we can’t find him” that daemon said kill the prince
I thought it was put forward as a “no one knows who the real target was”, but the man-friendly, anti-Rhaenyra slant was that they got who they were ordered to get
I am interested in seeing some non-book readers reactions to that ending because that just in my perspective was not as nearly as horrifying and traumatic as it was in the book. Still great though
from what I remember, it was in Alicent’s chambers, but I don’t remember her actually being there? turns out maybe she was elsewhere getting that Cole D
Already see a lot of "they fucked up the Blood and Cheese scene" takes online. Which I can understand, I was also kind of underwhelmed, but also it was never going to be as brutal as it was in the book when you're depicting the murder of children. They had to tone it down a little. I think them cutting out Prince Maelor as a character, forced them to remove the "choose which son" aspect of it, which kind drained some of the emotional weight out of it. Right now I am seeing more people online talking about Alicent getting caught fucking than I am seeing people talking about the child decapitation. That is kinda a bad sign. This was considered by many to be this story's Red Wedding moment.
yeah that’s the part they should have kept it. They tried to keep the “choice” part in there with having her pick out which one was the boy, but it woulda been much more powerful with the “hear that? Your mom wants you to die” and then the ole switcheroo. Really suprised they didn’t keep that in there. But then again these kids all seem aged down a couple years, so Maelor not existing yet makes sense that way.
I get why other shows have tried other release methods but goddamnit if this show/series isn’t a case for maintaining the weekly release then I don’t know what is.
Pretty gnarly premiere. As a non book reader I absolutely don’t need anymore than what was shown of the beheading tbh
I think people's issue isn't that they didn't show it, it's that in the book Helaena was forced to watch the entire thing happen in front of her and didn't just run away, the children were awake and aware of what was happening, and Blood killed the child Helaena didn't choose and said " kid your mama wants you dead" to one she chose. There was much more emotional weight and tension to it. I am fine with it though. I didn't think it was bad, just a tad underwhelming and not as well executed as it could have been.
