It is going to be really interesting on who they cast for this. It's kind of a hard character to cast looks wise I think. With him being like only 23 in the book, you need someone younger but also have him built in my mind as a burly, intimidating with a great beard but also need to keep that youthful look. Though in GoT they really haven't leaned into the Stark burliness that I have built in my mind from the books other than Sean Bean.
Watching some clips again, some heavy foreshadowing during that Rhaenrya birth scene that I didn't pick up initially. < foreshadowing to a future major event spoiler
Yeah same. Like I said I completely missed that he was a younger man. I definitely thought he was older based off his description of how he looks and the one drawing in the book he looks like an older-than-20s man to me. So I have no idea who they go with here. Could be a relative unknown of course, especially here in the states. And TBF to the Starks in GOT, all of them are half Tully (or half Targaryen) haha. But yeah after reading the books now, Richard Madden as Robb was definitely a choice. His face could pull it off somewhat but definitely expected some more muscle on my Robb Stark, even as a 15 year old, than what Madden has haha
the official drawings definitely make him look late 30s/early 40s. i forget the timeline, how many years out are we from the hour of the wolf
IIRC, the whole war only lasts 2 or so years. So maybe by the end of the war he's mid-late 20s at most
TBF in this universe early to mid 20's is like being 40 lol. This is a world where it's normal to go to war and get married at 13, and you get called "The Old King" because you die in your 60's lol.
Of course Vaghar didn’t listen to Aemond, he was talking to him in English! (Sacrasm, but weird they had J talk to Arrax in the right language and had subtitles but not Aemond)
almost seems like the inverse of robb and jon, where the actors were aged up for those characters from the books
Before the birthing scene, one of the nurses said this would be the 6th time for Rhaenyra. 2 with what’s his face and 3 super young ones with Daemon, right? We only see the two oldest boys and saw one or two of the babies in episode 8?
By the way, one of the worst jobs in a kingdom has gotta be the guards outside of Storm’s End or anywhere with bad weather. Why are they standing outside in the rain? Are they always out there? They had no idea Jace was on his way so they just stand out there all shift in case someone randomly shows up? They can’t get a shelter to stand in? At least a roof? I get that they probably assumed Rhaenyra would send someone but no text or email to let them know the day / time lol
Yeah and none of them respond back to me when i cite the part of Fire and Blood where GRRM very clearly and obviously lays down the precedence for this lol
Solid finale. A lot more confined than I was expecting, at least up until the end. The time jumps and plethora of characters with similar names were a bit much to get my head around, but everything else this season was excellent. Performances were great pretty much across the board. Love the characters and dynamics set up. Really hoping we don't have to wait too long before S2.
I think I liked this more than the first season of Game of Thrones. Really great stuff. Hope the second season is out before 2024.
Re-reading the book last night I caught something major that i think the show will "change" in future seasons. It's something that GRMM I think heavily hints at in the subtext but all the unreliable narrators accept another truth: The show will reveal Nettles is Daemon's bastard daughter, not his lover like all the narrators assume. If you read the portions that describe their relationship GRRM clearly describes Daemon as treating Nettles like daughter. Also Nettles age and background make total sense she would be Daemon's daughter, like what other Targ hooked up with a tavern wench in Driftmark 16 years prior? < Major book spoiler and show future seasons spoiler.
So I guess my question as someone who hasn't read it yet, what is the point of chasing a riderless dragon? Is Daemon planning to upgrade? Which was the dragon in the dungeon in the earlier episode before the last time jump? Anything that answers this while being reasonably spoiler free is appreciated
