Damn what an episode to kick off the time jump. So much happened. Viserys looking decrepit af. Vhagar looks awesome.
Man, my twitter feed is full of people HATING Allicent now. I don’t think she intentionally did anything that bad yet? It’s weird to me. No one is purely good. That’s something I like about the show. The varying levels of grey for each character. But someone was like “she is irredeemable!!!” And doesn’t seem to think the same of other characters who have done far worse purposefully.
that long shot of Rhaenyra and Laenor carrying the baby all the way from her room up the stairs to the queen's room was incredible Also after the baby was born, my wife was jokingly like "there's no placenta, this is unrealistic," to which I replied "they didn't have placentas back then," and then the afterbirth immediately happened and we were like oh
This is becoming more and more of a show that chooses not to be able to stand on its own as something other than a prequel. The pacing is just way too much
Tell me more about that. I am following along just fine. I did see Game of Thrones, but I don’t feel like it matters so much?
I kinda get that. If this came before GOT as a new television IP, I can’t imagine them jumping forward so insanely quickly.
I'm not in tune with a lot of the online discourse, but my guess as to why this might be is that I would think most audiences are rooting for or at least sympathetic to Rhaenyra. This episode positions Alicent in direct conflict with her, so naturally people are going to dislike her for that. Maybe I'm off on that assumption. Personally, I'm interested to see where they go with her character, especially after the shit Larys pulled.
I mean, there is a logic to that and may be true for some. But people are being extreme and saying irredeemable. That’s weird. Like nothing has been shown to draw such a strong reaction.
Ya irredeemable seems extreme. Spiteful and cruel, sure. But she clearly seems distraught by what happens at the end, so I think she still has more nuance than what some are giving her credit for.
the show completely stands on its own two legs separate from the OG series. the only connective tissue comes in the first episode.
I like both. They are both flawed and have an interesting story. Neither one is fully good. Neither is purely evil. Silly me enjoys both of them. Haha
If you think of the first five episodes as a prelude to the final five episodes and the rest of the seasons as a whole then I think things make more sense to people who are not as familiar with the source material. I have told my Dad a similar thing that this is about showing the seeds of what comes to pass later on. I honestly don't know how you handle the show any different because you are either going to spend a whole season or two in the prelude section or you fast forward even faster than we are now. I hope that when this whole show is over or even this season we look back at the start of the show it will be understood and appreciated better.
Yeah if this all plays out like we think will, then we're gonna see like, 20 years pass in this first season, and then spend another 2-3 seasons with only 2 years or so passing.
I can't think of a show that has done it this way either which I think is part of what people are getting hung up on as well. I guess maybe The Crown with their time jumps but its not the same at all.
