I probably said it in this very thread, but yeah I would absolutely love a show about the reign of Jaehaerys, but I think I also said I'd have no idea how they'd do it because, like...yeah it would be as you said, just straight up family/political drama haha. There would be some cool ass moments (GIVE ME AEREA HIJACKING BALERION PLZ), but it wouldn't have the war/backstabbing/etc that other parts of history do. So it would probably be pure fan service of a show haha. But IMO, in theory, you could do a couple seasons on his early years, a season on his middle years, and a season as the Old King if you just wanted to focus on a certain issue in each time period, or you could really fully flesh it out as a drama like you said and make it longer. You wwould still need time jumps though because there's only so many episodes you could spend in each era of his life haha.
I would love to see the Rhaena, Elissa Farman/stolen dragon eggs, and the stuff with Androw Farman depicted onscreen too. The Androw Farman part would be fucking insane on screen < F&B spoilers
At this point if Winds ever comes out, I'd be worried about my ability to get my hands on it for weeks because of how much build up and excitement there is, thing will sell out immediately. Luckily there's a small fantasy themed book shop around here that I have a decent relationship with (Dude sold me Fire & Blood a week before it was officially released when I walked in to pre-order it), so I think as long as I pre order with him he'd get me a copy on day 1.
I went to the "Midnight Release" at Hastings for Dance of Dragons in 2011. I showed up at 9PM and asked about the raffle, to which the guy said he was waiting for more people to show up. So I went to the coffee shop, sat around, read some, kept checking in with the guy. He eventually just gave me the "prize" which was a Song of Ice & Fire calendar and said I was the only person to ask about it. As soon as the clock struck midnight, a handful of people showed up, walked in, bought the book, and left. I had wasted like 3 hours thinking there would be some sort of line when everyone else showed up the second it was released and bought it. All I got was the calendar and this stupid story. What a dummy!
One thing I wonder about is how much Martin knows or has decided on how things will end for certain characters and if the issue is how to get them there or if most of that is still subject to change. Like, with The Doom of Valyria I wonder if he knows what caused it and/or if he ever plans on releasing that info or if he doesn’t know what the cause was or if that’s just something that will forever be theories and no definitive answer. Most of the time I’m fine with no definitive answer because sometimes the answer given sucks or is retconned later so I’m not personally invested in hoping we find out or not, more so just curious if he’s decided answers to things and is working out what will be revealed, or if he’s like “idk man, the doom sounds cool but fuck, no idea what I’m gonna decide the cause of it was”
Haha...TBF, at that point GOT had only just premiered a couple months before that, and wasn't nearly the cultural phenomena it would become yet. And of course was "only" a 6 year gap from the last book instead of the now 11 and counting. My guess is a lot of the book readers the show brought in were probably just buying the first or 2nd book around the time Dance was released, and they didn't get to Dance until a few weeks later haha
I always just assumed the Doom was nothing more that a super volcano erupting, and all the theories about it are just the people of the Known World trying to find an explanation for a natural disaster.
i think it’s just part of all the Harwin thirsting that happened after he saved her last episode+the trailer for next week was hinting at Alicent questioning Rhaenyra’s kids parentage so of course Harwin Strong thirsting Twitter has latched on haha
Yeah I try to support brick and mortar as much as I can because the idea of all shopping being done online is not something I want haha. I do more shopping online now that covid hit but yeah.
