I don’t like using the term “filler” but that’s clearly what they included for a lot of season 2 to pad out an awkward stretch of time within the overarching timeline. Like I could easily guess that the source material didn’t have much for Daemon during this time, yet the show still felt compelled to make him do something every ep because he’s a main character. Because the result was that about half of his screen time last season was just him repeating the same kind of dream sequences in Harrenhal over and over
Yeah in the book he goes to Harrenhall to gather an army and you don't really know what he's doing up there for most of the time. But honestly what they did with his story was a ton of fun and did help explain some stuff, i.e. if I remember correctly it's just mentioned that he and Rhaenyra "quarreled" before he left or whatever, and then all of a sudden he shows back up to help her, and you don't really know what the quarrel was about or why he was reconciled with her. So having him go there with what seemed to be some intentions to claim the crown for himself and then be brought back to her side thanks to the 'ghosts of harrrenhall' and the supposed woods witch was a good touch and a lot of fun. Alys Rivers is a pretty mysterious character in the book so it was cool to see what exactly her role was in the castle. To me more of the filler was what they were doing with Rhaenyra and especially Jace in this time. It picked up in the 2nd half with the sowing but before Rhaenys died it was basically Rhaenyra walking around being indecisive and thinking a lot lol. I mean stuff around her happened (The Cargyll twins, Daemon doing blood and cheese, talking to the White Worm about sending food to Kings Landing, etc), but as a character herself who isn't being allowed to fly her dragon into battle, she just doesn't have much to do. And jace was just walking around being pouty for most of the season after he got back from The North and the Twins. Went from pretty likable in season 1 to...not so likable lol. Baela meanwhile was cool and I wish we got more of her than we did.
I liked what they did with Deamon. He had some really cool stuff happening imo and his final “trip” was really cool tying both shows together. Also yeah I think The Gullet is forsure gonna be the first ep and I can’t wait .
I guess I kind of admiring them for just saying fuck it and aging the kids up to more appropriate ages for the story, gives me at least a little hope they’ll be able to fix the “Aegon and Viserys are too young” problem
Doing a rewatch of S2. I will say the pacing is a lot easier to forgive when you watch several in a row hahah. Still think if you have a kingsguard with a twin you gotta get him to shave his beard or at least wear different clothes man, jeez.
god DAMMIT dude I'm rewatching GoT and I even googled the episode where there are HotD spoilers but it cuts to the scene so fast I didn't even have time to mute it lmao. Fucking Joffrey strikes again
lol fuck man that sucks. Shoulda checked in here with us nerds first before starting the ep, we coulda told you what scene to skip! (I’m assuming you’re talking about the scene in the sept of Baelor where Joffrey is showing Margery around)
yeah, I should’ve gotten like a literal timestamp in the episode lol. There’s about 1 second after the scene starts before Joffrey spoils it lol
It’s also kinda fucked up cuz B&W maybe should’ve had the foresight to think there could be a prequel series or other adaptations.
Feel like this is kind of silly, isn't it? To expect them to omit information on the off-chance a prequel series is greenlit to maintain that potential surprise? Prequels are practically built on people already knowing how things generally turn out.
I’m not being like completely serious it’s just a thought however that THE main spoiler for an other series of popular books not explored yet in TV form maybe could’ve been axed. They included so many questionable things in the later seasons of GoT. Surely it wouldn’t have been a big deal to think “hey maybe we shouldn’t have this mentioned.” I’m not a TV producer though. Believe or not
Goddamn....looks epic. That sounded like Tully saying the Targs are a savage race...wonder who he is saying that to. Also find the angle they're setting up there of Aegon vs. Aemond interesting.
FUCK that was good. Seeing so much stuff from the book brought to life......ughhhhhh this season will be WILD
