I feel like this makes sense to end here just as a way to leave us all hanging and build anticipation for next season. If they ended w the battle, what keeps us thirsting for what’s next? I haven’t ready the books so maybe there’s something that I just don’t know about?
i'd be much more fine with this as a finale if we knew S3 was a year away. Ending like that with TWO YEARS to wait is frustrating lol.
see? That’s what I don’t know? I feel like the battle on deck is the one that ends things unless they’ve built it up to be a culminating battle but it really isn’t? Aemond seems like he’s going Leeroy Jenkins and he either lives or dies.
No lol, I haven’t read the book either but I’ve been told there’s like 4-6 seasons worth of material, given the pace they’re going. The war has only just begun. That’s part of what made this season so annoying: aside from the ep with the dragon fight, basically all of it has just been build-up to the “real” war despite I think most people reasonably thinking that the war had clearly “started” at the end of last season. Daemon spent all season just getting an army. Rhaenyra didn’t do anything until realizing she could get other dragon riders. That ending wasn’t just hyping up a singular battle, but the whole war
I’ll post thoughts later but…do we know it’s a 2 year wait? Or are we all just assuming it because of what has gone on with other shows and during the writers strike and all that? Iirc I think we were roughly 19ish months between 1 ending and 2 starting. And even though technically the writers strike didn’t affect it, it still felt like it may have slowed things up with the inability to do rewrites and all that. Like they slow rolled the production hoping to get the writers back before the end
S1 ended October 2022. Wikipedia says filming of s2 began April 2023. Presumably much if not most of the pre-filling time was spent around preparing the logistics, funding, schedule, etc. But still bizarre when GOT had no problem doing a season every year, and with even more locations / plotlines
I haven't read anything confirming a 2-year wait. I presume some fans are taking the wait between S1 and S2 and extrapolating. The last episode of GOT season 7 aired in August 2017 and season 8 didn't begin to air until April 2019.
Okay so holllly shit the Daemon Weirwood trip. The visions were fucking awesome…and to end with Helaena! Her somehow connecting with him on the Weirwood network and then to have her immediately just boss up to Aemond and tell him you’re gonna die bitch and it’s not gonna change..so fucking cool. But dany! The white walkers!! Brynden Fucking Rivers!!! My god that was great lore for the book readers lol. Also was it just me or did Rhaenyra on the throne in silhouette seem similar to the same shape as the Mad King? Idk it just felt very similar to Bran’s vision of the mad king. But man, still can’t over that “it’s a story and you’re just one part, you know what that part is”.
I will say I’m a little disappointed there wasn’t some kind of small conflict. I at least thought it would end with Rhaenyra getting to King’s Landing after that meeting with Alicent.
Also Daemon being all Rogue Prince all the time just to always be bending the knee to his brother or niece-wife is great lol Ser Simon with the claps and being relieved AF was great too lol. And daemon getting them all riled up to fight was great too. the convo between Corlys and Alyn was interesting. I don’t know why Corlys doesn’t just say mother fucker let me legitimize you and make you my heir lol. Did enjoy Alyn standing up to him and call him out on the years of neglect. really hate the whole story with Rhaena. So far the biggest change from the book as far as I can remember, and the worst. Wooooow at Alicent getting back to Rhaenyra again after they met up earlier this season. Rhaenyra’s face at seeing Alicent mirroring her shock in the sept was great lol. This is a decent change from the books, where Alicent had very little to do once the war started. Also just straight up saying we’ll surrender if you come over. Wow. Alicent asking her to come with lol. overall this was a great episode, with awesome scenes and acting. And…not a season finale lol. Stop making 8 episode seasons! Jfc. This season was needing one more big step forward and it’s read it’s all getting pushed to season 3.
also who the hell do we think has Otto? That was a random little scene there at the end. Loved the way we weaved through the different House themes as the final montage went through all the different houses tho
The music these last 2 eps has been so good. Also really enjoyed Daemons whole storyline this season, but agreed felt like an odd place for the finale to end
pretty good episode Simon is my favourite character, I love him just standing in the background of every scene living for the drama
Lame ending. Daemon’s visions were cool but the white walker and the winter is coming stuff doesn’t land the same knowing how long that war actually lasted
So I got distracted for a second when Alicent was telling Raeynera to take KL. The resolution that Alicent came to was SHE WAS going to be ok with Aegon being killed? Cuz that was what Raeynera was saying. She would have to put him to the sword in order for it to be over and Alicent seemed to agree?
Yeah, reluctantly. She was trying to say she could get him to bend the knee first. I imagine Aegon’s current state of pretty constant suffering has a lot to do with Alicent reluctantly agreeing.
I enjoyed most of this season but definitely agree with people saying this finale was handled kinda poorly outside of a few fun scenes. Definitely peaked at ep 4 and never hit the same high after that for me.
