Absolutely loving the stuff with Ayls

 

Sunfyre is beautiful but yeah I know I don’t like her

 

I could watch Daemon being creeped out by Alys for hours

Interested to see where they go with this Daemon/Alys/spooky stuff.

Dragon fight was cool, even though it's still impossible to make someone riding a dragon look good. There were a couple moments where it looked like Rhaenys could've fled, but she turns around and decides to keep fighting, knowing she was probably gonna die. Gotta respect it.

 

Ugh that last look that Meleys gives Rhaenys before dying. Just brutal.

 

Fuck I knew I was supposed to remember something about the goat but couldn’t put my finger on it.

 

Yes he and his brother Addam are in the book

 

Alright rewatching so gonna type more coherent thoughts (well, maybe not)

-Daemon not understanding Rhaenyra's old valyrian at the beginning was interesting. Not sure of the significance there
-Love meeting Oscar Tully. Wasn't sure we'd get that yet. Thought that was a great scene. Lmao at Daemon telling him within seconds to kill his grandfather. Lmao at Daemon having no patience for him to when he's like "while he still lives?"
-Despite that, Oscar didn't seem all that disheartened after Daemon walked out. Looking forward to seeing him in the future
-Rhaenys staring HARD at Alyn and then calling him comely lol. He knows she knows, she knows he knows, and then she tells Corlys to raise him up. Interesting. This was suspected in the books, but 1. We did not know for sure and 2. I don't think we knew that Rhaenys knew either.
-Alicent getting the moon tea ooooooo. Also couldn't tell if Orwyle was trying to sidestep the question about Aegon or if he truly didn't know. I lean towards the former
-The council is continually spicy considering they serve a queen and family with dragons that can eat them at any moment lol. Dude was more scared of Corlys than the 3 people there with dragons
-Speaking of this council....Where the hell is Ser Harrold Westerling? I thought for sure he'd show up with the blacks after walking out on the greens last season
-Even though it was brief, it was cool to see Lord Darklyn and Duskendale, even if it was just in the background. Enjoyed Darklyn telling Cole off. For those that don't know, the Darklyn's do not control Duskendale come GOT times because House Darklyn took the Mad King Aerys hostage at one point due to taxes. Ser Barriston Selmy scaled the wall of Duskendale by himself and got Aerys out of there. There's a whole disagreement about whether Tywin Lannister and Rhaegar were actually hoping he'd just die in there lol
-Aegon screaming at the Clubfoot and him saying the castle is more crippled then he is lol
-Kinda feel bad for Aegon when he tells then he needs to be informed of things. And then Aemond comes right out and tells him in front of the council he's been plotting with his Hand behind his back. Then embarrasses him with the old Valyrian lol "I need to...make...a war?" lmao
-Alicent making the medieval version of a heating pad for her aching uterus, thought that was a cool touch
-Larys looking at that cup of moon tea likeAlicent realizing he now knows yet another secret about her but can't do shit about it
-Also love both the fact that we can see Alicent is pouring over books and histories trying to find anything about what Rhaenyra told her about Aegon's dream. Thought that was a cool touch. And Larys probing her trying to figure out what it was she was trying to find, if it had anything to do with crowning Aegon, etc. He seemed impressed with her answer on Viserys' intentions too.
-Also Larys seems to try and get it out of her that it's Cole she's boning but he looks genuinely confused when she gives him the generic answer. Almost like he's not sure.
-Fuck we're back to House on Haunted Harrenhall starting Daemon. I love literally everything about this. I realized he was following himself then saw the eye patch and was like oh shiiiit. I saw someone point out that he probably doesn't remember exactly what Aemond looks like so he's imagining himself with the patch. But also obviously supposed to allude to the fact that Aemond and Daemon are basically the same
-"bastard." "once you get to know me you'll find out I'm not so bad" lol
-"Fled? Why?" "Just never settled in" lol
-Daemon's BED is made out of a Heart Tree?! Fucking love how much they're leaning into the Old Gods and their power
-Alys def trying to get into Daemon's head about following Rhaenyra. Team Green Sympathizer? Or just fucking nuts? who knows. (I kinda know)
-really wasn't sure what to think about the transition from the drink to the meeting. Did the potion he drink just fucking knock him out until then? Is this a Fight Club situation?
-LOVE Willem Blackwood showing up again. Really didn't expect to see him again since his son Benjicot was already introduced (I think, I guess that coulda been Red Robb Rivers?)
-Setting up for Daemon to go take House Bracken's castle and get the fuck out of Harrenhall, figured he'd jump at the chance to do that lol
-Aegon being bored at the council meeting and pissy they're not asking him for any insight. Alicent's comments later on about how he just expects to be knowledgeable now are spot on.
-"Where are your fathers books?" Alicent still on the hunt for the song of ice and fire. Then takes a swipe at him
-Then rolls her eyes at him whining about the not caring what he thinks lol. And then smiles and says "what thoughts do you have" lmao
-On second viewing, I'm now wondering if the tone and words she chose here were meant to just put him in his place and subdue him like she wanted, OR if she meant to get under his skin and egg him on into flying into battle. She knows Aemond is a psycho so I don't know if she wanted him to be king either, but maybe she knows Aegon is such a useless POS she wants him to go get himself killed?
-Felt bad for Rhaeynra's Kings Guard Ser Darklyn. Also lmao at Jace giving her a shitton of attitude. Love seeing him take some command, but then he also ends up giving the worst advice here. "we need to send a dragon!"....fell right into Cole and Aemond's trap
-Rhaenyra is rightfully suspicious of this, but her council points out that their lord is on her council so it does make sense.
-That being said, Jace wanted to go himself, blast some fire, and get the hell out of there. That might have worked?
-Rhaenys saying Meleys is no stranger to battle, but I honestly can't remember her being involved in war at all? I don't remember if Alyssa rode her to battle when Rhaenys' father died or not.
-Omgggg Sunfyre nuzzling Aegon and Aegon giving a legit happy smile. Ugh.
-Aegon the Conqueror's armor is basically exactly like it's described in the books I think?
-Battle looked awesome, the archers raining hell down on the advancing soldiers, then the shouts of Dragon.
-Fuck man Meleys looks so fucking awesome coming in and excited to burn some fuckers, Kinda sad we didn't get a "Dracarys" from Rhaenys
-Vhagar slwoly lumbering up, then Aemond seeing his brother and giving her the stand down order. Her plopping back down like alright I'm going back to sleep lmao. But yeah, Aemond knows Meleys gonna fuck him up and lets it happen
-Aegon about pisses his pants seeing Meleys, and then the alcohol kicks in and he says forward Sunfyre.
-Rhaenys's smile when she sees it's Sunfyre and knows she has a chance to kill Aegon. Also interesting she goes with "attacK" and has Meleys use teeth and claws instead of fire while Aegon goes for Dracarys right away
-The realization of the Rooks Rest men seeing Vhagar's giant ass show up is so awesome
-Meleys just absolutely fucking Sunfyre and Aegon up, and Aegon sees Vhagar and is happy for a second and then realizes oh fuck Aemond is going to kill me. Meleys letting go and getting hte fuck out of the way of all that lol
-Ugh poor Sunfyre. I did think it was a cool touch to have the dragon blood burning people it landed on
-Rhaenys turns around to fight and straps herself in to go upside down. She clearly had a strategy she thought she could do to take down Vhagar and it almost works, she does get Vhagar to crash into the earth. Aemond's face when he realizes she's coming back to fight is great too. Meleys gets some good claws into Vhagar's chest. Both of them spitting fire at each other as they crashed down to earth was great too. No idea how Vhagar didn't break a leg there but okay.
-The slow motion chaos on the battlefield as Vhagar goes stomping through everyone is so awesome and looks awesome too
-Meleys gives Rhaenys a look like "girl I'm tired and hurt, I think it's time to go"...they go looking one last itme over the battlefield to see if Vhagar is gone and then I thnik she truly was gonna take the W and go...but fucking Vhagar from below. Ugh
-This is so heartbreaking. The cries as Vhagar chomps down, the look back at Rhaenys, and then the eyes close. So fucking heartbreaking. In the books, this goes down a different way. Basically Meleys and Sunfyre are locked together and Vhagar crashes down on both of them at the same time. So you don't really have this scene where Rhaenys actually sees her dragon die. Eve Best did such a great job here with just her face of showing a brief look of heartbreak and despair watching her girl die, and then almost immediately switching to a look of acceptance like "okay, time to let go and die". So hard to watch that entire sequence, especially knowing how it was going to end, but so well done
-Aemond "serving face" after she drops down to earth, as the kids say
-Cole going up to the ash soldier! so fucking cool. He actually seems kind of phased here like "oh fuck, what have we done".
-Sunfyre gurgling and groaning but still alive! I wonder how they handle that next week.
-I really don't know what Aemond was going to do there. He was putting his sword away when Cole called out to him. But I think the implication there was he got it out to kill him, but once he saw him on the grown and all charred up he knew he didn't have to anymore. Claimed that dagger in a hurry!


Yeah. Whew. This is a totally different experience for me than GOT because I didn't know what was coming with GOT, but knowing what's coming is making this even harder in some ways tbh. Watched that whole dragon fight in dread knowing I was going to be sad at the end. But fuck man this is so good and so well done. I kinda liked the way the fight went down in the books with Vhagar crashing down on both of them and them all falling to the earth together, but this was still so cool.

 

One foreshadow I caught (non specific reference to a future major event) : right before Rhaenys went In for her doomed charge on Vhagar, they very purposely had a close in shot of her strapping herself in..those close in shots of dragonrider's strapping in are going to be a thing to get us used to them doing that.

 

The sickest dragon sequence not only of this show, but maybe of this entire franchise so far.

I was waiting on them to mention the name of Oscar Tully's brother and late father but I see why they didn't, GRRM's very funny Tully naming convention joke would have been too obvious to the audience lmao.

 

Aegon been the best character so far this season

 

Per the Wiki of Ice and Fire, Willem Blackwood is supposed to be based on Samwell Blackwood from the book, and the character we saw previously was called Davos Blackwood a brand new character for the show

I don't think we have seen Benjicot yet, or maybe Willem or Davos is supposed to be an amalgamation of Benjicot and a few other characters I dunno .

Great episode.

Hated how they made it appear that Aemond was hoping Aegon would die (from Rhaenys or later when he was going to do it himself but Cole showed up). I dont recall that from the book and i dont like that departure.
