I will say, I fully respect the move, having said that: are artists just like totally okay with Apple? I feel like Apple has some shady shit going on, it’s just not as public as Spotify. Not saying they should put their stuff on Spotify again, but it just feels silly to take it off one spot and not the other. glad I’m a vinyl guy.
there's a suspension of disbelief with Apple, while Spotify is openly going all in on AI, the military, and Joe Rogan
Said it better than I was currently typing. It all goes back to ethical consumption - there isn't any in capitalism. Apple isn't perfect but am I going to fault someone for choosing to use their stuff? Nope. And they'd have to pull from everything but basically Quboz. Google is what it is (and arugably worse than Apple), Jack Dorsey owns Tidal...fuck them all.
never going to stream shame anyone, huhuh, but just go support your favorite indie artists when you can. Buy a shirt, vinyl, CD it will always go a further way then a stream!
I was only keeping Spotify for the Wrapped feature but I just got life access to stats.fm for like $9 and I'm ready to make a switch
I respect their stance and 100% fuck Spotify, but I agree, where do you draw the line? Even Bandcamp I seem to remember reading had some questionable shit going on at one time. Until there’s an entirely artist-owned platform there’s always going to be some ethical issues, and even then, if one could even get off the ground, it’s impossible to conceive of it being ethically unimpeachable because that’s just not how the system works. I worry that these bands are just going to end up hurting themselves because lazy shits like me who want to listen to everything in one place in their car are just going to confine their listening to what’s still in the library of their preferred streaming platform.
