Chris Wollard retired from touring a few years ago, it's a long story but they were playing Fest and Wollard just told them he wasn't gonna play that night so they recruited Cresswell to step in for the night/next few shows. Weirdly Chris Demakes from LTJ also filled in at some point in the early days. But now Cresswell is a full time member and tours instead of Wollard (sings all of his songs live) and this is the first recorded material he's been apart of
And Cresswell sounds fuckin fantastic live too. Like REALLY REALLY good. When I saw them in Lancaster in November, they opened with him singing the first few songs and he brought so much energy. It will never happen, but I would be love to hear rerecordings of Wollard songs with Chris doing his vocals.
At the time I remember hearing that he wasn't touring anymore because of health reasons. Is it that he just doesn't like playing shows anymore?
As far as I am aware, it was and still is for mental health reasons. Touring life can take its toll on a person and not everyone is cut out to do that for the rest of their lives.
I believe it was a mixture of that and also just not wanting to be away from his family Wollard was also just on 101 Jobs podcast last week it's a good listen
Yeah, this new record and "Drag My Body" aside, I'm not familiar w/the rest of their catalogue. I need to fix that--this new one is so damn great!
Yeah I did a full run through of their discography in the lead up to this album, and they’re just an incredibly consistent band. I haven’t stopped playing this one since last Friday either.
I think Caution and/or Flight are the best starting points. The fact that that's where I started is pure coincidence, no one has ever felt that way before. The new record feels like a spiritual successor to the new what next. Not instantly in love with all of it but it's great. They feel like they're in a great place, that might be the best thing about it.
Seems it's one of my most-frequently-listened albums this year - I love it and I'm sure I'm gonna return to it many times during some time off in the summer! Love everything about it and the work of all 3 vocalists this time around!
Blasted it yesterday on the turntable and had a great fucking time. I’ve loved all their recent material but this seems to be the best.
Yeah, to me it's their best new music since Exister (although we didn't have much from them within that span of 10 years exactly).
Returning to this again for the first time since release. Only album I really know well is caution but I'm digging this one a lot.
