It's possible! The biggest thing I can recommend is reading the lyrics while listening. Thats what did it for me initially and I've been obsessed ever since.
I think they change things up on a few tracks here just enough that it may sway you one way or the other. Particularly Cock Party 2 and No Shoes.
Crazy how far this band has come. Trying to listen to Pilot I'm pretty meh on it and then jump to You'll Be Fine which I absolutely love and I'm loving everything on this new album as well
I think its their best album - they won me over with their previous EP but this is better. His voice is the biggest roadblock to entry but def give it a shot.
Yeah, I think “Featuring Mark Hoppus” and “Pop Shuvit” are their best and most accessible songs with my preferred vocal style - and hope this album explores that sound more. Same with “Green Squirrel” which is the song that got me into them. Love You’ll Be Fine and the EP and am excited for this
oh there are plenty of bands I love with people you could class as technically 'bad' singers, it's not the issue here. don't know why but outside of a few songs they've not really clicked for me. will try this out over the weekend!
haha yeah I get you on the voice thing. just saying, its been an issue with a few of my friends that are in this scene.
Glad to see everyone is loving this, has definitely been my most anticipated of the year so far. So annoying sad summer fest isn't coming to NYC
It's funny to think I found out about these guys after one of their friend's dad's posted about the Fenton EP on LinkedIn (yes, LINKEDIN) on its release date. Every release has been a step up from the last and this is no different. I hope this vaults them to even more exposure and bigger venues!
Staying up to throw this on good headphones in a few minutes. Really excited. I think this is the first band in the general genre to hit me this way since Spanish Love Songs did in 2018. I really, really liked You'll Be Fine, and Pilot is okay, but the EP peaked my interest in a big way and I've been enamored with everything since. I think "Featuring Mark Hoppus" was my favorite song of 2021. They're absolutely killer live, too. My only knock (and this isn't about them, specifically) is that they seemed to bring out waaaaaay more pop-punk bros than I'm used to. Like, SLS seems to draw Wonder Years style crowd, which feel like my people. HM draws...something very different, haha.
3 songs in. This is wild. Feels like they're upping the alternating lines between Tades and Chris. It's got a neat, chaotic early TBS energy to it.
This is outstanding. The melodies are so sweet and groovy. I love the increased use of dual vocals and the moments of chaos on this. Never thought I’d say that Cock Party is the best song a bands ever written, but here we are. Can’t wait for them to announce a fall headliner, I need to see these songs live.
I like this band, don’t love them. I think it’s the random screams for me. Is this something common in emo music? I don’t think I’ve ever listened to traditional emo music; mostly listen to the pop punk end of the spectrum. I do like what I’m hearing so far though.
God damn this band is fun. A lot of songs on here I’m looking forward to hearing live. Not sure anything as quite as good as Equips Sunglasses or Featuring Mark Hoppus, but Cock Party 2 & Shhh Golf Is On come close and will probably grow on me more.
Christ Alive’s lyrics are top tier HM. This album is so, so great. One of this genre’s best bands has done it again.
