I don’t have their permission to share it. But I have 25 years of history in the music industry, and if you’re cool co-signing the public shit, by all means we have different compasses on life anyway. Dude fucking sucks and I’m not “arguing” about it.

I’m sure we do. I personally don’t have issue with anything publicly, even if it isn’t for me. As far as not being able to share it, then it is what it is… maybe don’t use that in an argument if you can’t share? Sorry the guy sucks, I’ll tell my friend and see what he says I guess. edit: if he has offended anyone with these songs, I’d love a source and explanation to be more educated on the topic. I haven’t been able to find anyone actually upset about this outside of this site. I did some digging not much out there.

 

I’m more than comfortable with my history and the integrity of what I’ve said over two decades. And again, I’m not “arguing” with anyone. You not having any issue with what they’ve done publicly is more than enough for me to know we disagree on a fundamental level. So maybe don’t try and pick fights?

 

Pick fights? Have I been disrespectful at all in this argument? I have a different opinion than you, is that trying to pick a fight? Also, I think I’ve been pretty willing to try and listen to other sides of this and have even asked for sources of people effected by gun violence that have been harmed by the lyrics.. again, you have some inside info, but I didn’t know anything about that…

 

Yes. The above post is absolutely picking a fight in this thread. Trying to cause shit. And I’m not spending any more time on a version of “glorifying guns isn’t harm and anyone that thinks so is silly” - cause it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to draw some simple lines from those kinds of people to reality in our dumbass country.

 

Yes, but to me (and I’m guessing others) it’s always been very obvious that the whole thing is a bit. Maybe based off of new information shared in this thread tonight it isn’t, I’m not sure. But it’s always seemed like that to me. I spent a lot of time arguing for a band I’m not even a fan of. I said I would bring some of these things up with my RL friend, and discuss with him. Honestly isn’t that the best case scenario for you and others winning this argument? I never felt angry or that it was a problem our opinions differed…

 

It’s not a bit. Rethink all of it to anyone that’s ever been around gun violence.

 

I’m also growing tired of “it’s a joke/bit/performance art” being used as an excuse for being a fucking horrible person when it’s not funny or good art or anything but glorification of shit. Be better at making that kind of art or doing a bit of you want that “coverage.”

 

I do agree with this in a lot of instances. I never viewed the things they would tweet or lyrics as glorification any more than say gun violence in a movie, I think that’s always been the barrier for me as far as finding that sort of thing problematic . Again, and I do want to make this clear, I don’t personally like the art and do not think it is well made. I just don’t find it harmful. You and others have explained your side, and I’ll think about it for sure. For me it’s more nuanced, but I definitely see where your opinion is coming from.

to me this isn’t the same thing as some of the things Matt Healy has said recently, but again that’s just my viewpoint on it. And maybe I’m wrong.

also for the record, I hate guns. And will never own a firearm in my life, and I’ve never even held one…I absolutely recognize gun violence is a problem in this country.

I think songs about genuine experiences are one thing but songs that are kind of making fun or glorifying bad things in an insincere way are not okay.
