Same haha. I was a lot better at retaining/singing along to lyrics when I was younger and still remember words to songs I haven't listened to in years. But even then, my brain doesn't really process wtf I'm singing or what the words mean. Now... I just don't retain any of it.

    This is absolutely me.

really couldn’t tell you a thing about what any lyrics from my favorite albums mean either

Oh I'm 99% sure I do. I suck at learning things through lectures and videos, too. I need to read and visualize things at my own pace and be hands-on with stuff.

I pretty much always try to listen to an album with lyrics the first time but yeah, I very rarely remember them that well anymore. I do tend to remember what the general idea behind each song is though and some of my favourite lines and the chorus haha.

Hot Mulligan in particular is usually hard for me to remember the actual lyrics although I do tend to like them a lot.

Part of it is I’m usually working, driving, cutting the grass etc while listening to music. I don’t just sit on the couch and listen so I’m less focused on lyrics and just focused the overall vibe of the songs.

yeah 99% of the music I listen to these days is in the car. Got some new headphones recently though so I have been using them more the past few weeks

    I do not exist.

I can’t remember where I read this (think it was a book) but… When we’re younger our brains have more capacity to remember lyrics as they’re associated with formative times of growth and brain development. Once you stop growing it’s a lot harder for us to remember things like lyrics.

That definitely makes sense. But also I don't listen to albums hundreds of times anymore like I used to, and I listen to a lot more different music. Plus I already have like a few thousand songs worth of lyrics saved in my brain, I'm running low on space.
