I had the thought listening to this earlier that the Chris verse on and a big load was pretty bad and I remembered someone being weird about him in the previous album thread and turned out it’s that same user
Album is full of ear worms regardless of it not being as catchy/immediate as the last two albums. The lyrics are still top notch and the vocals on this album show some pretty impressive growth. If you are upset about stupid song titles, this band has always had them so I don’t know what you were expecting. I can definitely see why people wouldn’t be feeling this as much as the prior two albums. It’s much more of a grower that gets better the more you listen to it.
Yeah I know myself and know that plenty of albums I didn’t immediately like grow on me, I’m not writing it off
2nd listen today definitely got me more today. my grandmother passed away last year somewhat unexpectedly. I wasn’t there when she passed but I know she was always so proud of me, being her 1st grandchild and being like a 2nd mother to me after my parents divorce. I think once this fully hits me is gonna hot hard
I honestly don’t even know what my favorite Hot Mulligan album would be. You’ll Be Fine has my favorite Hot Mulligan song (Green Squirrel), but that, the EP, WWIW, and this new one are all great. I feel much less attached to their pre-YBF output.
The only song I genuinely dislike from this band is And I Smoke. I have no idea why - always just an immediate skip for me
Hell yeah love that for the fam. Been spinning this all weekend. I really am enjoying but am feeling a little bit of the same-ness as others
On one hand I definitely get the same-ness, but I’m not super sure I think there’s any more of that than on WWIW. And on the other hand, I can tell these songs apart pretty easily; I think Cream and Let Me See Your Mounts are the only two I get confused about which is which.
Also have been typing “Monica Lewinsky” when discussing the album with others. No way I can type the real title
I’ve done a lot of listening to their discography in the immediate aftermath of WWIW and idk guys, I think the new one is easily my favorite. I don’t get the sameness complaints and it feels like a pretty clear step-up instrumentally for me. My only complaint after almost a dozen listens is that I can do without all the interludes minus Milam Minute.
