yeah How Simple is definitely the one I find myself singing along to most, but probably because I've heard it more since it was the first track released. Not sure anything will ever top The Knock's "8:45am..." for me in terms of catchiness, but we'll see.
How You Got Your Limp is probably my least favorite. Though it's more accurate to say it's the only one I don't consider my favorite haha.
I agree. It's the only one that's not jumping at me in a big way. Everything else is next level though. Hoping it grows on me!!!
I have no previous Hop Along experience but I put this on at work and enjoyed it so much I just let it repeat a second time
This is starting to grow on me a bit more, and it's certainly not a competition, but I'm firmly in team Painted Shut at this juncture. There are a few bits that are continuing to jump out at me (certainly a lot of Look of Love) but I think Painted Shut has a lot more "holy shit" moments that combine the most powerful parts of Frances' voice with the instrumentation at large (such as the final chorus of The Knock, the last part of the second verse in I Saw My Twin). I'm optimistic that repeated listens will bring out more of the highlights.
oh i prefer painted shut too but this record is so much its own thing that it feels weird to compare them
i guess the best way i could put it is that painted shut is a badass rock record with harrowing depths and bark your head off is more of a pastoral horizontal thing. the songs are landscapes not columns
