Just cannot get into it. Glad it's being embraced and well-reviewed though. It's missing the raw edge, the speed, the passion of their first album.
I'll never forget how floored I was when I discovered 'I Became Birds', so the bar was very high for me, but this is shaping up to be one of my favorite albums of the year after repeat listens and digestion.
It’s been two weeks and I am not any less addicted to this. I wish I liked their merch designs more but I at least have to pick up the record.
Fun fact, they flipped the artist and release titles on my Pink pressing. Not sure if it's like this on all of them. Side note, album is one of my favorites of the year so far
I liked this when it came out, but wasn’t 100% on it. It’s been in constant rotation since and I’m fully on board now. What a record.
It’s my second favorite of the year behind Youth Lagoon. I wasn’t sure what my girlfriend would think of them but I introduced her to this album last week and she was immediately hooked. I don’t know why I found it so funny when she started blasting it while making pancakes the other morning but I did.
This is easily the best emo record I've heard this year. For me it doesn't have as many memorable moments as I Became Birds but I think The Whaler is overall a better album and a step forward. I'd lump this band in with Cursive and Glocca Morra as emo bands that fit in well with their contemporaries but are also creatively on a completely different level.
