Just saw them tonight and they never sounded better. Was awesome to see some deep cuts from Death Spells
Got nice and stoned out back a little after sunset yesterday and threw this on the good headphones. Started sprinkling somewhere in the middle and was full on rain and lightning by Void lol, a very satisfying experience Anyway yeah this really nails all of the dynamic components it’s felt like they’ve been shooting for in a way none of their previous material has. Definitely a lot of thanks to the production work. The guitars are layered in such a way that just when you think the heavy parts have already dropped, they somehow always get more intense. The electronic bits and warbly tape samples sound a lot more smooth than in the past too. I also feel like the motifs are a little less subtle in places than they were on Death Spells, which is whats I thought made their earliest material so memorable
Haha yeah he was a founding guitarist. He was out before the first EP, but you can even hear him singing on some of their earliest demos
This album is great, everything I liked about Death Spells but just tighter. This is no joke, I listened to this on an early morning walk today and there was a dead fawn someone moved off the street to the curb
I'm still exhausted from driving home late last night but had a great time seeing them in Providence. I selfishly wish they could've played longer, the set felt like it went by in the blink of an eye for me.
I’ve listened to all this 3 times now, all in the car. I really like it but it hasn’t grabbed me as much as Death Spells or the Black Moon (yet). I need to listen with my good(ish) headphones
It’s okay. Didn’t move the needle for me when I listened to it for my first time earlier this year and I haven’t listened to it since. Much more on the shoegaze/post rock side of things. Very little screaming and few, if any, heavy moments.
I dig Realms, but it was the only thing they had out for like three years so admittedly became attached. Production for sure holds it back though. I do think Foal still has their best guitar melody and Lo is in the conversation for being their heaviest song
I was listening to Death Spells and noticed some of the chorus of Arrows reminds me of Chin Up by Copeland
Seriously, was insanely foggy on my drive down to Cambridge from Maine last night . Felt like I was in Silent Hill driving down 95 and I immediately had to throw this on.
