I have 9 areas mapped right now and really loving this despite being terrible at it. but also, boss SUMMONS do 2 masks??
The sense of exploration and the environment is so fucking cool. Getting my ass beat but still having fun.
I found a way to very easily farm rosary beads if anyone's interested: When you get to the Halfway Home in Greymoor, rest at the bench and then leave the building to the right. Go to the next cave area and there will be three enemies - one with a big pipe thing to attack, one that throws things at you, and one basic one that just tries to roll into you. If you use the silkspear attack then you can stab through them all and it should kill all but the biggest one who just needs one more hit (I guess I'm writing this after getting a needle strength upgrade which is just an area or two after Greymoor, so it may not be as strong if you don't have that yet). Killing them and then returning to the Halfway Home bench to respawn them takes about 15-20 seconds By default they collectively drop I think around 30 beads, so that's about 90 beads per minute with essentially no risk because they're very weak/predictable/fast to kill + you just regain health when you rest again There's also a badge (I know they're not called badges here but that's still how I think of them) that you can get *way* later that will enhance the amount of beads enemies drop (with the risk being that you lose beads as you get hit), and that will up it to 47 beads. So at this point I'm about to get nearly 150 beads in just about minute. But if you're still in that area then I really wouldn't worry about it right now because you have *so* much more to get to before getting that badge is even an option lol
I have the sense that I'm about somewhere between halfway and 2/3 through the main story, and this game is so much bigger than you all may realize yet. Like probably twice as big as the Hollow Knight map. If you're at 9 areas (I think that would be around Bellhart/Shellwood?) then you're probably like...20% through lol. Think like, finally beating Godrick in Elden Ring and then discovering everything past his castle
Finished Act 1 and I literally think the Last Judge is the longest I’ve ever spent on a boss fight (that I actually was able to beat) in any video game. It came right after Widow too, who was super fun because her fight felt somewhere between Grimm and NKG from the original.
This boss and one specific mini-fight+platforming area are easily the closest I’ve been to feeling like setting the game down with how many times I died to them. I wish the game would keep stats on how many times specific enemies kill you because it felt like 50+ as I was doing it lol. And the fact that I knew it was the final obstacle right before a huge moment in the narrative was killing me
loved both fights. I was so good at the little obstacle course leading up to Last Judge by the time I actually beat them
just gotta eat the surcharge and string em. that's what I do, especially before a big trek or a fight act 2 spoilers: that's before you have a way to summon the cocoon back from anywhere tho
The second/third needle strength upgrades (which is which just depends on when you come across the requisite material) are hilarious because one is just a matter of exploring and happening to find what you need, whereas the the other is a truly Herculean search for multiple items throughout nearly the whole map lol
i make sure to take a break before i ever get too irritated, which means i'm only gaming for like fifteen minutes at a time if i'm fighting a boss haha. so progress is slow, but i'm enjoying it
I hope whoever came up with the Sinner’s Road bench and maggot water never knows peace. On the plus side, I’m way better at pogoing after a dozen or attempts.
My problem is that by the time I’m that frustrated with a boss, I’ve already fought them enough times in a row that in my head I’m like “I’ve completely memorized their move set, I just need to actually execute the actions correctly, and I can't give up because then I'll have to get the muscle memory back when I restart, I'm in too deep to quit now" lol
can anyone confirm if there is a white palace/path of pain style platforming challenge? That was my favorite part of Hollow Knight
My experience with metroidvania bosses is usually -get frustrated -go to sleep -try again in the morning and beat it on the first try
