Reviews are out now. Basically if you liked the first then you’ll like this one. Same amount of campiness with nostalgia sprinkled in with modernized humor mixed with witch and Halloween galore.
“The challenge for the sequel to a beloved film is maintaining enough of the original to make the fans happy without being too repetitive or confusing newcomers, and “Hocus Pocus 2” gets that just right.“ Hocus Pocus 2 movie review & film summary (2022) | Roger Ebert
Yeah all the positive reviews are making me feel much better about it. Lots of mentions of the Sanderson sisters getting a backstory that actually bothers to inform both films, a fun musical number, and an apparently emotional ending.
The only negatives I’ve been reading is that the green screen shots are pretty bad, but I only care that this movie is fun rather than it having top of the line CGI
Yeah hearing this is pretty decent except for looking kinda shitty visually. Hopefully there's some decent atmosphere, the trailers don't have much.
Alas The youth Sanderson girls played their roles flawlessly. Loved the Walgreens scene, especially eating the facemask part, the mirror bit and the swiftjet broom. One of the dancers in the street was dressed in the Madonna from HP1. Love the HomePod bit. So yeah, overall this turned out to be much better than I was anticipating. Can't wait to watch with my kiddos. Also, Under Wraps 2 came out on Disney+ today too, which last year's first one was a fun movie to watch. Awayyyyyyy
Just finished watching this. It was about what I expected. Some of the humor was good especially the Walgreens scene. I didn’t care much for the new characters, but I did like the flashback scene to when the Sanderson sisters were young Overall I’d say I didn’t quite enjoy it as much as the original, but it’s not far behind it.
I really enjoyed this! The set design/green screen was shitty, but it almost felt.. intentional? Like it was trying to bring back that 90s aesthetic or something.
If they make a third (which I think could be likely) then I’d definitely like them to bring back some of the cast from the first film. Max, Dani, Allison, Jay and Ice. They need to answer where the Sanderson sisters went at the end as well. Did they get trapped in the book?
I liked this. The original is my favorite movie of all time, and while this obviously wasn’t quite as good, it was a serviceable sequel and that’s all I ever wanted. I likely won’t come back to it nearly as often as the first, but I’ll take all the Halloween movies in my life that I can get lol
The sequel feels like a modern version of a Disney Channel original movie in the best way possible. A perfect amount of nostalgia and addition with new lore. That’s coming from someone who thinks the first film is mostly boring. The one downside it will give drag queens new material for October. The campaign for a new Halloweentown starts now.
Hooray! That is indeed what it was. I dug this, flaws and all. Can really tell genuine care went into making it and yeah those kid actors nailed the Sanderson sisters. Props to them. Pleased with that bittersweet ending. Pleased to watch this tonight with my kids and hear them get excited when the candle was lit, the witches returned, Billy popped out of his grave, the musical number started, and my six year old son even pointed out ”It’s the devil costume!” when the Mayor was in line waiting for his candied apple he never got, the true tragedy of the whole story. Just a cool experience to share this love of Hocus Pocus with them now and remember how many times I rewatched it growing up. It’s a neat thing to pass on and I appreciate that they now also get a modern film of their own they can look back on as well. Sisterrrrrrs!
Had low hopes so I'd say the fact it wasn't bad, thats a win. Thought the kid actors, especially the main girl, was pretty rough... and didn't find the mayor character funny at all. Enjoyable and ill even accept the sappy ending. Song sequences were forced and unnecessary Miller, Parker and Kathy were (no surprise) the best parts.
