Never have I seen the brain power and resources of grown men more fully employed in a discussion about music made for 13 year olds...
exactly! just look at the tour forum, bunch of 30 year old men really hyped about bad warped tour metalcore that right there is proof that music isn't directed at a specific age range
Generally I'd much rather listen to something "made for 13 year olds" than something made for sweaty pop punk bro dudes lol.
I don't even like Boys Like Girls that much if at all but it feels ludicrous to act like they weren't successful or popular or that Martin doesn't have a gift for hooks
Obviously anyone can listen to anything but let's be honest, a major label band like All Time Low directs their music at a target demographic and they have to be home by curfew. My comment was made mostly in the interest of levity.
I would never even have imagined a song from this band would get this much attention on this site hahaha. Can't believe everyone is so up in arms, but it's been an interesting read I guess. I actually really enjoy all their albums but can agree this single is trash.
I think you're kidding but you can pretty much remove the words "major label" from my point and it still stands.
I mean... if you're in your 20s and you're too good to discuss BSB or NSYNC then I don't want anything to do with yah.
because they took their sweet time dealing with the front porch step situation and signed harry corrigan's band, a dude who sexually assaulted a woman and then his uncle (who is a well known figure in pop punk land) threatened christian from the hotelier when he brought it up. and on a different yet related axis, lacks almost zero diversity amongst the whole label.
Super unrelated but there's a punk festival in Montreal this weekend and a band named Keep Flying was on the bill. I checked them out and JJR is playing sax for them. Messed up this guy is still freely touring.
Thanks for the info, does seem quite problematic. Although the second criticism could probably be aimed at most labels in the scene.
i truly can't think of a label tilted as much in the direction as pure noise. last i looked i counted two women on the entire label lineup, though i could have missed a couple. i don't know any label that is THAT bad
Fair point. Sucks because I do like a few bands on the label, and these sorts of things make me feel conflicted about supporting the artists (who aren't necessarily themselves part of the issue).
Yeah, I count Jules Vera, Can't Swim (one female), and Lizzy Farrall for a total of three. Basing it purely on their promo photos because i don't listen to most of these artists.
It's not surprising that the label who largely made a name for themselves off bands like The Story So Far doesn't go out of their way to support women in the scene
A step in the right direction then? Might be an active effort to combat the issue, which should get them a little credit, no?
let's hope? i hadn't even heard that name once yet until i looked it up. means they're definitely not strongly publicizing it (or i'm just really unattached from this scene as a whole at this point haha). hard to really trust them until i see a consistent change in their signings at this point
Unfortunately, I think it may be more widespread than you think. Hopeless Records is a much bigger label than PN that still has a lot of credibility in this scene and I can count just one female on their active roster, Jenna from Tonight Alive.
