Okay so this is me realizing, weeks after I first subbed to this thread, this isn't actually an adaptation of the games
Folks, this movie is phenomenal. It's basically Linklater doing Fletch. Horny and hilarious with one of the best scripts of the year and a movie star performance from Glenn Powell. It's a shame Netflix got their grubby hands on it because it needs to be seen with a crowd hooting and hollering the whole time. It's a real crowd pleaser - tons of laughs and applause breaks. It's one of the best films of the year. My guy is BACK
I guess really the blame should be pointed at the studios for being too chicken shit to take a chance on what is genuinely a crowd pleaser that in another era, would have been a big box office hit. It's not some weird obtuse arthouse movie at all.
https://www.vulture.com/2023/09/why-did-richard-linklaters-hit-man-end-up-at-netflix.html Okay. So what does it mean then that there’s gonna be a “theatrical component” to the release of Hit Man? It remains to be seen, but I think the feeling is … I don’t know what level it’ll be on, but I think they’re going to lean into it. Netflix understands the opportunity here with the way Glen’s career is going, with the commercial appeal of this film, and so I think that it’ll be closer to a game-day decision. But the indications we’ve gotten is that they’re going to support this theatrically.
