Another 80s one I love, Monster Squad You also got some peak Mel Brooks with History of the World: Part 1 and Spaceballs
I don't listen to music when I am exercising. I enjoy the silence and tranquility. People need too much stimulation.
I hope I wasn't too mean to @OhTheWater because it was a joke. Anyone who takes the time to recommend me something will get a fair review of it sooner or later.
80s were the absolute golden era for Hong Kong cinema, economically booming, but with the handover back to China still a little bit away, free to take risks and be bolder in a way that post-97 Hong Kong cinema (and even more post-2014) wasn't. Best of what I like from this period is all the wonderful Kung fu / action films. Taking the more formal Shaw Brothers / King Hu stuff of the 70s, making it contemporary, and adding massive stunts and falls to it, hugely influenced by silent cinema clowns. Sammo Hung is my favourite of this period, a big fat round bloke, but he moves like a ballerina, and has an incredibly expressive face that means he's perfect in comedy or tragedy. He improves every film he's in. Up until about 10 years or so ago, I only knew Jackie Chan from his American films, which are (sometimes) good, but you watch him in his prime in HK, acting in Cantonese, and he's got charisma for days. Best 80s HK martial arts / action films; 1. Wheels on Meals 2. Police Story 3. Project A 4. Encounters of a Spooky Kind 5. Dragons Forever 6. Winners and Sinners 7. Royal Warriors 8. Millionaires’ Express 9. On The Run 10. Armour of God Some of my favourite stunts / falls from HK cinema. Project A - Jackie falls from a clock, and in true HK tradition it looks so painful they have to show it twice. Police Story - Jackie does something similar but with more electricity and broken glass. Pantyhose Hero - Sammo Hung gets hit by a car. There's not much more to say than that, they give it a nice slow-mo to see him being hit by a car. What a man. Millionaires Express - Yuen Biao flipping off a burning building, and then continuing the scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsLBIhVoXlM On The Run - Bamboo to Street Light, looks so easy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oh_6EVyGTc Here's a couple of infamous ones, with lax safety, even by Hong Kong's standards. Devil Hunters - The actors were supposed to jump out of the window before the building exploded, but they set the explosion off too early, and then kept that take in the film. That's how the film ends, and the credits are the actors in hospital, and newspaper reports. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKKidWltlPE Fatal Termination - Probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in a film. I'm sure it's probably safer than it looks, but it looks outrageous https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhNNSrA2Hp0 Loads of great stuff outside of action in HK in this decade, I could talk about it, and bore everyone to tears, for hours.
