My peak LP preorder just shipped from Merge, really looking forward to hopefully getting to hear this a few days early. I've had "Glory Strums" on repeat today. Just an immaculate song.
I saw someone mention in a comment somewhere that Phil Cook isn't on this record, and after checking the liner notes on the Bandcamp page, that looks to be true. Wonder if there's a story there?
Got my copy, great album as usual! Some of the songs on here feel almost minimalist at times but everything is so performed and arranged so beautifully. “It Will If We Let It” is really making me smile today.
Yeah feels like he got his mojo back on this one. Maybe Scott Hirsch is his secret sauce. The opener is instantly one of his best songs.
"Sanctuary" is one of my favorite songs of the year, and has definitely given me spurts of keep-your-head-up-ness when I've needed it the past 6 months. I never would have thought of it as a closer but damn does it work.
New Scott Hirsch album out today and it’s one of the best I’ve heard this year. If you are a HGM fan and enjoy that blend of country/soul/folk/gospel/rock that MC Taylor pulls off so well, then Scott’s stuff would be right up your alley as well.
Even though Phil isn’t with HGM anymore I assume most people who are familiar with his work is bc of his time with this band so it felt like the most appropriate place to post about his new record. The new album is out today. It’s a solo improv piano album and it’s incredibly beautiful stuff. Highly recommend it.
